THE DECKEE PACOS S Introducing... MISS SUSAN DIXON Wesleyan would be much Smaller without the day students, and it would be much duller without Susan, for she is fun to be with. Last year she graduated from Northern Nash in Rocky Mount and decided to come to Wesleyan. It should compliment some professor to know that she enjoys chemistry more than any of her other sub jects. Susan likes to spend her spare time having fun and trying to ride an over-spirited horse. If some day she should appear bruised and sore, it is prob able that she’s been horse-back riding again. She plans to transfer to Medical College of Vir ginia as a junior to study pharmacyi So she’ll be here one more year. If you don’t know her you are missing a person as genuinely sincere as she is fun. Once you know her, you’ll never forget her; so make a point to meet Susan. B The Vault Opens In Rocky Mount The basement of the old Peoples’ Bank Building has been turned into a most unusual fa cility. First advertised as Rocky Mount’s Christian Cof fee House, The Vault has grown into a truly different source of entertainment. Even though it has the distinction of being op erated by the Women’s Society for Christian Service of the First Methodist Church, Wes leyan has taken over by pro viding the chairman of the en tertainment committee and the weekend managers of the es tablishment. George Watson, a son of Rocky Mount, heads the committee while Steve Gor don and Brian Flynn alternate command on Friday and Sat urday nights. The Vault opens its doors from 7:30 until 11:30 on Fri day and Saturday nights only. The management reports that attendance has been very good and the tables are usually filled by 9:30, but of course their is always standing room. Wes leyan again made its influence known in the form of Dr, Ralph James, who held an autograph party at The Vault and also favored those in attendance with a discussion session on his new book. The Concrete God. The management fondly remembers the necessity of turning off the entrance lights in order to dis courage further customers from entering. The decor of the coffee house is both practical and farout in design. The patrons sit at tables made out of electrical- wire spools A mirror occupys one wall and the mirror it self is decorated with psyche delic pictures. The antiquated, marble floors of the old build ing add to the atmosphere. Furnishings are rounded out by the performing area. Brian Flynn enjoys working th^e because he has the chance to ^ay his guitar and sing as well as wait on customers. This can change work into pleasure, or almost anyway. When live entertainment is lacking during a break, a stereo provides mood music, while not “Musak” it is effective. Other featured performers have been Rick Houck and Tom Gar low. Coffee and tea are continuely served and there seems to be an ever ample supply of home made pies, cakes, cookies, and brownies. Visit The Vault and try this type of entertainment and “fel lowship’ on for size. Watch For Out To Lunch m And call early. Friday or even Thursday is no time to ask a girl for a weekend date. And being broke is no excuse because now you can call just about anywhere in the country at low evening rates. So next time you plan a swingin’ weekend, make your plans by phone. And get an early start. Like Monday. She’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness. Have fun!
