You should have seen me. I was quick and agile about my work, not fast and loose as is some times my custom. Noth ing undone, but all in readiness for the coming day. I wasn’t myself. I was something on the other cover. Do you un derstand what I’m trying to tell you. You left your umbrella up all last night. Maria won’t stand for much more of that, cer tainly not, no indeed. Bring me the dog; open the cantaloupes. Can you hear me? I say I was busy ....very busy. I hope you won’t take this too harsh ly. I really did love you, or at the time you tasted good at least. But you can’t expect me to love you every night, parti cularly not with a grape fruit half-eaten on the back porch. I’ll have no more of this Algerian wine; It’s too smoky it’s too smoky. Will you turn off the lights before you read the paper. It will cast a new lighten things. I hardly know where to start, so many things need doing. I should have done them all last night, but I was so busy you re member — horses and candles and muffin men with apricot rifles: you really should have been here. Then you’d know how it is, but you never understand, do you? Bring me the umbrella I’ll dry it off for you; I didn’t mean to yell at you. 11 always gives me a toothache or at least five cookies. That was a sweet old lady always giv ing people those terrible cookics left over from last Halloween that she had just made. But It has nothing to do with your diet. You understand that, don’t you? You know how it is don’t you? Just leave. I’ll never eat your suicidally painted lim ericks again. Can’t you at least put papers down for the dog? You’re a per fectly worthless clock. I should have married a tuning fork. And I don’t care if my smoke is get ting on the rug; I’ll not play Monopoly. You spend too much time in the bath room as it is. What do you do in there, anyway anyway. But you would have been proud of me last night, very busy, quite dead. And I’ll never eat taboos again. Do you at least understand that? The URBAN/SUBURBAN...
