MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 1975 THE DECREE PAGE 3 INU GAMMA PHI In the short seven years that Nu Gamma Phi has been in existence, it has proven itself in all areas of campus life. Chartered as a social fraternity, it is dedicated to the im provement of social life as evidenced by the two beer blasts and pig roast held last semester. But Nu Gamma Phi is more than just a social fraternity. It has contributed on innumerable occasions to the Wesleyan community. Painting the Tank Theatre, sponsoring Easter Egg Hunts for the boys at Fountain School, and establish ing the Earl Harper Scholar ship Fund are just a few examples, j But Nu Gamma Phi is more than just a social-service fra ternity. It is a successful fraternity. How does one explain winning seven consecu- I tive inter-fraternity basketball I games, five Homecoming Bed Races, four Homecoming Dis play Awards, and the Dean of Students Award? During the past seven years, the brother hood of Nu Gamma Phi has had among their number four SGA presidents, four President Cup recipients, and numerous members of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor So ciety. In addition, seven Nu Gamma Phi sweethearts have reigned as N. C. Wesleyan Homecoming Queens. Nu Gamma Phi is all these: social-oriented, service-minded, and successful. But most important, it is a brotherhood— a group of diverse individuals bound together by the princi ples .of brotherhood. Rush week is the time during which you can look at the brotherhood and it can look at you. We hope that you will take a look at what we are, what we have been, and what we could be with you as a brother of Nu Gamma Phi. ^LAFF OF THE WEEK v rm m , “Aren’t you two on speaking terms again today?” NU GAMMA pm FRATERNITY SIGMA OMEGA We’re not going to fill this I article with bull about how our brotherhood concerns itself I with academics, strong bro therhood, community and cam pus service and social events. It’s true and I could do that, but we feel that you the reader, I would see it as just that: bull. Sigma Omega seeks to meet and cope with the realities of life through these four stand ards. The times in between and during these dealings create the closely knit character of Sigma Omega. The brother hood recognizes diverseness in each brother and, yet, main tains this strong brotherly characteristic: There is no set standard for a Sig-0 brother except what the IFC requires. Service-wise, Sigma Omega has held general functions. They extend anywhere from a 56-hour basketball marathon held in Tarrytown Mall to painting the Garber Chapel stage and assisting in painting the Coltrane Threatre. Two years in a row the brotherhood has received the Dean of Students award and awards from Omicron Delta Kappa concerning blood donations. Socially, Sigma Omega is very active. Parties have been held on beaches of the outer banks and at the quiet shores of Lake Gaston; either it’s a dress-up dinner at J. R.’s or a steak cookout; either a P. J. party at a brother’s apartment of a beer blast at the Pizza Inn. If you feel that you would enjoy getting to know about Sigma Omega, come to the Sig-0 lounge the night of January 21 or ask any Sigma Omega brother. f t SIGMA OMEGA FRATERNITY
