Wesleyan outshot the Bulldogs 16-12 and equaled them on shots on goal 3-3. Barton made the most of their chances put ting two in the back of the net. Volleybail- (10-17, 4-9)- The Bishops split a pair of USA South Conference matches, los ing to Averett 0-3 (21-30. 21-30, 16-30) and then defeating Chowan 3-0 (30-24, 30-15, 30-24). In the Averett match, Deborah Porterfield had nine kills and Kendra Brewer blocked three attacks. Erin Bryant added 16 assists and Carter Batts had 11 digs. Against Chowan Batts had 12 kills and Bryant collected 24 assists. Melissa Leonard contributed nine digs. Thursday, Wesleyan dropped three straight games, falling to Greensboro 0-3 (16-30, 21-30, 29-31). Deborah Porterfield led with five kills and four blocks. Carter Batts contributed 16 digs while Erin Bryant added eight assists. Women’s Soccer - (3-12, 3-3)- Chowan broke a 1-1 tie with four minutes left in the match as they slipped past the Bishops 2-1. Neither team scored in the first half. The Braves broke the scoring drought in the second half but Wesleyan tied it when Serena Fumosa’s corner kick was punched in for a goal by April Wheeler. The defense couldn’t hold the tie as Chowan scored on a transition goal. Lukasina Takes Over as NCWC’s Soccer Coach Released 24 Sept. By NCWC Sports Information Dept. Tory Martin Lukasina takes over as North Carolina Wesleyan’s Women’s Soccer Coach. Lukasina will take over for Kelly Walters who resigned to take the same position at Kenyon College in Ohio. Lukasina’s most recent experience as a soccer coach was as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Martin Methodist College (NAIA) in Pulaski, TN. Lukasina took over a program that had only been in existence for four years, claiming only 11 victories in that time. She got the program going in the right direction with a 19-30-1 record in her three years. Her biggest feat came in her last year when she took the RedHawks to the NAIA Region XI Tournament Lukasina served as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State Uni versity (NCAA I) for two years prior to her time at Martin Methodist. While at MTSU she was primarily responsible for recruiting and goalkeeper training, as well as daily practices. ‘Tm extremely excited about this opportunity at NC Wesleyan,” stated Lukasina. ‘Tm familiar with the school through alumni that I know and have been in contact with. I consider it a privilege and an honor to be a part of the tradition at Wesleyan.” “We are pleased to have Coach Martin [Lukasina] join our staff,” re marked Athletics Director John Thomp son. “We believe she’s both the quality coach and person to continue the suc cessful tradition that has been built in our women’s soccer program.” Lukasina played two years at Bel levue University (NAIA) in Nebraska where the goalkeeper led the MCAC in goals against average in 1994 and was a two-year varsity captain. She transferred to Middle Tennessee State University where she again was a varsity captain and was named the Soccer Outstanding Student Athlete in 1998. Lukasina received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Educa tion and her Masters Degree in Physi cal Education / Recreation from Middle Tennessee State. Outside of intercollegiate athlet ics, Lukasina has been involved in several soccer organizations. She was the Head Soccer Coach for the Music City Sting Soccer Club in Nashville, TN and was a Goalkeep er Coach for the Southern Soccer Academy in Brentwood, TN. She worked for several years on the staff of the University of Florida Soccer Camps. Lukasina has a USSF National D License.
