DEATH TAKES TOM SWANEY E. C. TATUM SR.PLANT FOUR BOARDER RETIRED Tom Swaney, truck driver for Plant Seven, died July 17. Tom had been in declining health for several months and critically ill for several weeks. Tom had heentiriving trucks for #7 since December 26, 1931. Hetookgreat pride in the care of his trucks and their excellent mechanical condition was evi dence of his attention to every little de tail of their maintenance. He had driven the present heavy duty truck over two hundred thousand miles without having any repair or overhauling. He has aver aged three trips every two weeks to Try- on since the Tryon plant started opera tions in 1938. A trip to and from Tryon with Tom quickly gave one an amazing knowledge of the close acquaintances Tom hadmade along the highway. Tom made friends quickly through his warm personality and eagerness to accommodate his fellow man. He could always find something to do for someone beyond the duty of his job. He was loyal to his job and until his last illness was rarely absent. Tom needed very few instructions about haul ing shipments and materials between the plants. He anticipated what should be done. Tom is survived by Mrs. Swaney, a son, Edward, and a daughter, Mrs. Edith Williams. E. C. TATUM SR. & E. C. TATUM JR. When Edward C. Tatum, Sr. retired last month, Edward C.
