7 - RETURNING SERVICEMEN r. ^ NANCE MARSHALL Following three years of service intheU.S. Marine Corps, Ray Mar shall and Limuel Nance, both boarders at Plant #4, returned to work recently. Both Ray and Limuel volunteered for three years of military duty with the hlarine Corps on March 3, 1953, taking their three months basic training at Parris IslandMarine Base, S. C. Next, they Were transferred to Camp Pendle ton, California for an advanced infantry Course. Until their overseas assignment, Bay Was with the 1st Combat Group, 3rd hlarine Division, and Limuel was with the Weapons Company, 1st Battallion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Divi- ®ion. Upon their arrival in Japan, Ray ®arved with the Ordnance Service Com- Pany, 3rd Service Regiment, 3rd Marine J^arine Division, while Limuel went with Is unit to Japan. ^ In February, 1955, Ray returned ° the States and was assigned to the .nance Service Company, 2nd Marine Ivision, Camp Lejeune, N. C. until ®cparationonMarch2, 1956. Limuel Returned to the States in November, 1955 Was assigned to the AT Company, Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, iQ '^til his separation on March 2, * 956. During their military service, both and Limuel earned the Good Conduct HAROLD MATTHEWS Ribbon, United Nations Service Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Na tional Defense Service Ribbon and the Korean Service Ribbon. Ray was sep arated as a corporal and Limuel as a sergeant. Ray returned to work March 9, and Limuel returned March 8. Both boys are single and live with their parents in Kernersville. Harold Dean Matthews, boarder at Plant #1, returned to work on April 3, 1956, after serving two years in the U. S. Army. Harold entered the Army in April of 1954 at Camp Gordon, Georgia. After eight weeks of basic training, he attend ed cook school for eight weeks at Fort Banning, Georgia, and was then station ed at Fort Bliss, Texas, as a cook for twelve months. On July 4, 1955, Harold became a part of Operations Sagebrush near Jonesboro, Louisiana, and was in charge of the dining room for the commanding general of the 9th Army until maneuvers ended in Louisiana on December 17, 1955. He then returned to Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was discharged on March 30, 1956. Harold is unmarried and resides with his parents on Route #5, High Point, North Carolina.
