Beginning January 1, 1958, no one can buy o license for a ear or truck in North Carolina without automobile liability insurance, unless $11,000 cash or $15,000 bond has been deposited with the Department of Motor Vehicles. 2. Beginning February 16, 1958, it will be a misdemeanor to operate an uninsured motor vehicle registered in North Carolina or permit onyone else to operate it unless cash or bond is deposited. Under o low passed by the 1957 Generol Assembly, owners must show "proof of finonciol responsibility" to buy 1958 license plates. This low Is sometimes colled the "Compulsory.insurance Low" because the easiest woy for the average owner to comply with it is by having automobile insuronce In force. Other ways ore by depositing with the Deportment of Motor Vehicles a $15,000 bond or $11,000 in cosh. The outomobile liability in* suronce required must provide limits of ot leost $5,000/$10,000 bodily injury and $5,000 property damage. When you opply for o license tag, there is only one woy to prove you have outomobile liability insuronce. Thot is, by a Cer tificate of Insurance olso known os Form FS-1._You_w|ll_j2ot_^ able to get o license plate by showing on insurance policy or ony other document escept Form FS-1. The insurance componies will mail Certificotes of Insuronce (Form FS-1) to their policyholders in North Corolina before Jonuory 1, 1958.
