MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR
Arranging,
packaging, and
sending our sam
ples of all styles
to all customers
each season is a
complex and ardu
ous operation by
our Sample Depart
ment. Add to
sample distribution
the problem of
ordering packing
for the thousands Forrest Jones
of different customers each with indi
vidual packaging materials; these are
the duties and responsibilities per
formed by the employees of the Sam
ple Department under the supervision
of Forrest R. Jones.
Samples must be distributed at
the earliest possible date after styles
and patterns for the season have been
approved by our Sales Department,
They may be packaged according to
our standard sampling packages or
according to the directions of the
customer.
Since packaging materials cannot
be ordered until orders for the hose
have been received, time is an impor
tant element in ordering the riders,
transfers, bands, boxes, stickers,
envelopes and other items which go
into the packing of the hose. Much
detailed work goes into the preparation
of these orders.
Forrest Jones has been head of
the Sample Department since the re
tirement of J. G. Scruggs in 1954. He
had been assistant to Mr. Scruggs for
twelve years.
He was born in High Point on
Forrest Avenue; however, the name of
the street was not the reason for Mr.
Jones naming his son the same name.
Forrest graduated from High Point
High School in 1939. After working in
another hosiery mill in High Point
for three weeks helping to straighten
out stock for inventory, he came with
Adams-Millis as a lot handler in the
Pairing Department of Plant #1, under
the supervision of the late Roscoe
Burchfield. Eighteen months later,
he was transferred to the Sample De
partment.
On October 10, 1942, Forrest
entered service with the U. S. Army.
He was in the Normandy Invasion with
the 90th Infantry Division. Six days
after the invasion, Forrest was wound
ed at Utah Beach and was hospitalized
in England for six months.
As soon as he was available for
limited service, Forrest was sent
back to LeHavre, France, where he
was assigned to guard duty behind the
lines. He moved on to Belgiijm and
Frankfurt, Germany, With his honor
able discharge at Fort Bragg on
October 25, 1945, he returned to the
Sample Department.
On May 3, 1946, he married Miss
Lois Wagoner, a graduate of Trinity
High School, who was then employed
by Tobias, Inc. On December 1, 1946,
Mrs. Liois Jones was employed in the
main office of Adams-Millis where
she is now working in the Purchasing
