CANDIDATE FOR COUNCIL
Banner Leach
The history of Adams-Millis Cor
poration would not be complete without
the record of Banner Leach who has
been with the organization since 1906.
Now in his sixtieth year of continuous
employment, Banner is still actively
at work as plant mechanic.
Banner had been working at a
Hamilton Street trunk factory which
was owned by the Millis family. The
trunk factory closed in 1905 and he
later came to work with High Point
Hosiery Mills, located on English
Street. There were about 125 em
ployees in the building, which is now
used for the warehouse. Equipment
included 40 George D. Mayo knitting
machines and 28 J. W. Hepworthloop-
ing machines. Banner helped install
25 more knitting machines; he also
helped lay the shafts for these new

J. H. Millis, president of Adams-
Millis Corporation, is a candidate on
the Democratic ticket for City Council
of High Point in the city election May 4.
This is the first time Mr. Millis
has run for public office. He has lived
in High Point all of his life and has
been very active in the business, civic
and religious life of the city.
In announcing his candidacy, Jim
Millis stated, "My dad served his city
because he felt that he owed High Point
whatever he could give her, and that
is basically why I am here today. High
Point has given me a lot, as she has
given all of us. I want the chance to
give time and energies to High Point.
High Point has always been a progres
sive city; I want to see that progress
continued. "
