RETIREMENTS APPROVED FOR FOUR Norma Dutton On the occasion of her February retirement, NormS. B. Dutton, of the Main Office, was ‘entertained by the office staff at a luncheon at A1 Boling's Steak House. Norma retired from the Order Department after more than 38 years of service with Adams-Millis Corporation. Seated at the table with her is Etta York (left), also of the Order Department. I- * . 'A Thomas Miller Thomas Miller proudly looks over the presents he received from his fel low workers upon his retirement. His co-workers in the Dye Department gave Thomas several shirts, pajamas and bedroom slippers. Apparently they think Thomas is ready for leisure, but Thomas says he will stay busy on his four-acre farm off the Skeet Club Road, north of High Point. Miller was born four miles west of Hahira, Georgia, where his family had lived for several generations. He left the farm and came to High Point on Christmas day in 1920. He was first married in 1923. His first job in High Point was with a local ice plant. In 1922, he started boarding ladies' cotton socks at the Gaylord Street plant. Fifteen years later, he was transferred to fireman and watchman. He was transferred to Plant #1 as fireman in 1956 where he worked until retirement. Thomas married Willie Mae Ross from Lancaster, S. C., in 1950. They attend the Emmanuel Baptist Church. "I really got a kick out of working for the company and with its employees for forty-three years. I found it to be a wonderful place, " Thomas said in summing up his long term of employ ment. Pauline S. Mc Lean, pairer of Plant #4, has re tired on the basis of physical dis ability, She has been continuously employed since March 28, 1938. Born and rear ed in Davidson County, Pauline and her family moved Pauline McLean to Kernersville in 1937. Her first work with Adams-Millis was cutting strings with scissors. Later, she was given an opportunity to learn to pair, the job on which she spent most of her years of work. Pauline and her husband, P. C. ,
