FOUR RETIRING AT MT. AIRY

For eighteen years, Oma Pack,
left, and Anna Young, right, have work
ed together boxing, checking and fold
ing in the Finishing Department of Plant
#2 in Mt. Airy. Both are retiring this
summer.
Oma came to work for Granite
Hosiery in August of 1948, after having
been with Renfro Hosiery for several
years. She says she has enjoyed her
years with Adams-Millis Corporation
but is looking forward to a restful re
tirement.
Born in Patrick County, Virginia,
she attended Pilot View and Blue Ridge
Schools. In 1923, she was married to
Quillie Pack and moved to Mt. Airy,
N. C. There are four children in the
family--one boy and three girls. Mr.
and Mrs. Pack reside on Route #1,
Mt. Airy and attend Flat Rock Presby
terian Church.
Anna Young was employed by
Granite Hosiery one year later than
Oma Pack. Anna, too, is looking for
ward to a quiet retirement and hopes
to have time to pursue her hobbies of
sewing and crocheting.
Born in Stokes County, she attend
ed Francisco School. She helped her
parents on the farm until her marriage
to Theo Young in 1924. Of that mar
riage were born four boys and two girls.
Anna is a very active member of
Flat Rock Holiness Church where she
is a member of the Ladies'Auxiliary
and has taught the Primary Sunday
School Class for the past twenty-one
years.
With twenty-three years of service
behind her, Nova Newman, Plant #2,
will retire this month. On October 1,
1945, she was employed by Granite
Hosiery as a pairer and spare boarder;
her principal job has been that of pair
ing.
Nova was born in Patrick County,
Virginia and attended Slate School in
Claudeville. After marrying Earlie
Newman in 1928, the family moved to
North Carolina where they still live
on Route §2 out of Mt. Airy.
The Newmans have three children;
they attend Mt. View Primitive Baptist
Church in Ararat, Virginia,
Nova's plans for retirement include
canning, which she greatly enjoys, and
just taking it easy.
