Doris Calhoun After more than thirty - three years of employment with Adams - Millis Hosiery Company, Doris Calhoun has retired from her seaming job in the Kernersville greige goods plant. Her em ployment had been contin uous since May of 194Z when her very first public work was that of sewing tops for Adams- Millis; later, she inspected and seamed. Born in Guilford County near Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church, Doris White moved with her parents, two sisters and five brothers to a farm near Stokesdale while she was still quite young. Later, she was married to Joel Calhoun, now deceased, who was with Adams-Millis Hosiery Company in Kernersville for thirty-seven years prior to his retirement in 1962. Two of the Calhoun children are former employees of Adams- Millis. Doris attends Cherry Street United Methodist Church and resides at 117 Vernon Street in Kernersville. India Warren, em ployee of Adams-Millis Hosiery Company's finishing plant inKerner s - '''■ille, has retired after thirty-one years of con tinuous service. Her first 3-ud only public work was With Adams-Millis, putting on stickers and aiders. Born India Dillon and i^eared in the Pine Grove India Warren Community near Kernersville, she attended Kernersville schools. India is married to Grover Warren, who recently retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with a twenty-year perfect attendance record. The Warrens have one daughter and two sons; they reside on Route 2, Kernersville. India has no special plans for retirement, f*ut she does expect to remain active in Pine Crove Methodist Church where she is a member, ^he stated she had enjoyed her work with Adams- Millis a great deal. Strange that we all defend our wrongs ^ith more vigor than we do our rights. Kahlil Gibran Carrie Warren, seamer in the Hosiery Division's Plant #4 in Kernersville, has retired on the basis of age. She came to Adams - Millis on February 19, 1934 as a looper and con tinued looping, until this operation was discontin ued in i960, at which time she re-trained for seaming. Her hus band, Sam Warren, and her daughter, Geralee Crews, are former employees of the Kerners ville plants. Carrie is an active member of Union Grove Baptist Church where she serves as a teacher in the Sunday School. Carrie Warren 111 health has forced Pauline Atkins, order clerk of Adams-Millis Hosiery Company in Mt. Airy, to retire early. She had been with the company since September of 1947. "I liked my work and I loved everybody I worked with, but now my doctor says that I must give up public work be- Pauline Atkins cause of my health. I will always remember how nice everybody was to me. " In September of 1972 and again in January of 1973, Pauline underwent surgery for rheumatoid arthritis, but her health did not improve enough for her to remain at her work. She has been an active member of Union Hill Friends Church near Mt. Airy for many years; she has served as church treasurer and never missed a Sunday before her illness.
