He joined the company in 1989 as Director of Marketing and worked to build the Hanes brand. His new role includes re sponsibility for Hanes, Cham pion and many licensed pro grams and the recently formed forecasting group. Fought joined Sara Lee Knit Products in 1984 and Product Manager where he was primarily involved in the men’s underwear business. Prior to joining Sara Lee he worked at RJR Tobacco and Mobil Oil. He earned a bachelor of science degree in business at Kansas State University and an MBA from the University of Missouri. David Teal, formerly Ac counts Payable Manager and most recently Financial Ana lyst in the Planning Depart ment, has been promoted to Senior Financial Analyst at Sara Lee Hosiery in Winston- Salem. He had worked with Adams-Millis since 1988. Dave Ensley has been pro moted to Financial Analyst. He joined the company in 1976 and has held several General Accounting positions. He holds a degree in busi ness administration from High Point University and a certifi cate of study in accounting from Guilford College. He will report to Financial Planning Manager Tom Rak- erstraw. Several new members have joined the Adams-Millis team in Barnwell, S.C. Marben Bland has been named Manager of Human Resources and Wallace Th ompson as Training Manager. Tim Beasley has been pro moted to Safety/Maintenance Manager and Judy Tolbert has been promoted to Knitting Manager. Volunteers Needed Bland has been Employ ment Manager at Sara Lee Hosiery for the past two years. Prior to that he was Human Resources and Business Manager for NOMAD Cor poration in Atlanta, Ga. The 1982 graduate of Mercer University also holds a masters of public administra tion from Georgia College. Thompson is a 1974 gradu ate of Benedict College with a degree in business administra tion. Before joing Adams-Millis he worked in a variety of management positions with General Tire, Inc. in Charlotte, Collins and Aikman in Farmville and Springs Indus tries in Fort Mill, S.C. Beasley, who has been with Adams-Millis since 1979, pre viously was Safety Manager at Mount Airy ICnitting and Fin ishing. Tolbert, a 19-year veteran of Adams-Millis, was Knitting Supervisor in Mount Aiiy prior to her promotion to the Barnwell position. Richard Nickel has joined Adams-Millis as Facilities Engineer. His responsibilities will in volve all aspects of engineer ing related to facilities from preventive maintenance to new construction. He will report to William Johnson, Director, Manufacturing Services. The 1986 graduate of the University of South Carolina earned a degree in electrical engineering. He also was a member of the Engineering Honor Society and was on the Dean’s List. He worked for the Naval Sea Systems from 1986 to 1990 as a project engineer in the Trident Nuclear Submarine Program then returned to school to earn his MBA from Wake Forest University in 1992 Martin Bundy has been named Production Control Manager for Silver Knit. A.D.D., poison control cen ter and several others. “We want this to be a fam ily event and we plan to have events that will benefit young sters as well as adults,” Cal lahan explained. “We want to instill safety in the minds of people at a young age so they will live their lives in a safer manner.” One event of interest to youngsters will be a bicycle safety exhibit and may include a bike rodeo. Also for youngsters will be several areas for entertainment including face painting, clowns and a variety of games. A dunking booth also is planned. “We already have a few volunteers to be the dunkees,” she said. “Chuck Allen, Tommy Bennett, Doug Streetman, Danny McNair, Van Joyce and Robert Gates have volun teered but we have a few oth ers in mind who might volun teer as well. “As to the exhibits, we plan to cover as many areas of safety as we can at this event,” Cal lahan said. “Fire safety, gun safety, water safety, hazards around the home including lawn and garden safety, as well as lifestyle areas such as drug abuse and matters like that.” The event is to begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. Free food and drinks (while they last) will be available and drawings for a variety of prizes will be conducted. Callahan said all Adams- Millis employees are invited and encouraged to attend the event. “We also need more vol unteers to assist with the event,” she added. “A lot of people already have said they want to help but we can use a lot more.” Volunteers are needed to work with some of the exhib its, to serve food, to assist with set up and with clean up among other tasks. “Everyone has been very enthusiastic in putting the plans together,” Callahan said. “We hope this is the beginning of an annual event in which Adams-Millis will continue to promote safety throughout the community.” Anyone who wants to as sist with the e' M!t should contact his/her plant safety coordinator or Pat Callahan at Kernersville Finishing & Distribution. vai inf he be bo to of ITV H sh ai Zi te D d fc Barnwell Plant Manager rail strike in France. Although Dan Bulman and Mount Airy they were caught in Paris in the Plant Manager Dennis midst of it at the beginning of Hodges won’t forget the 1992 an eight-day fact-finding trip to Sara Lee plants in France, Germany and Ireland a few months ago, it was merely an inconvenience. “We picked up a lot of good ideas that we’re incorporating into our operations,” Bulman explained. “The Barnwell plant is staffed, based on what we learned over there.” Bulman and Hodges visited three sheer hosiery plants - Dim in France, Pretty Polly in Ireland and Vatter und Palme in Germany. They looked at how knit ting departments were staffed as well as how equipment was set up and how raw materials were handled. “They did an excellent job in each of the plants we vis ited,” Bulman said. “We were able to learn a lot that Adams- Millis can use very well.”
