NOVEMBER ISSUE SEW IT SEAMS Page Three I TOUR HUDSON DIVISION — Members of the Society for the Advancement of Management who visited the Hudson division on November 5 are shown above with their Anvil Brand hosts. Help Cut Down Exchange Work The personnel department, which is responsible for sales and exchanges at the employees’ store, is asking the cooperation of each member of the Anvil Brand family in exercising more care in the se lection of the garments they pur chase. The number of exchanges being made are growing daily and threatens the entire store system. They are requiring entirely too much extra work on the part of shipping department employees and the girl in the sales room. To abuse the privilege offered by the company of buying garments through the Anvil Brand store could jeopardize the privilege of future purchases. We all are asked to exercise care in calling for the right size, lot number, and color preference. When ordering sport shirts be sure to give a second preference as the shipping department has been instructed not to open a new box of shirts for a particular color when other partially filled boxes in the correct sizes are still avail- / r.ble. Remember that each color of slacks (and shorts which we’E be ordering this summer), come in different lot numbers. If you don’t remember the lot number be sure to specify the color. To cite an example of a frequent mistake which results in ex changes, we often order a girls garment when what we actually want is a misses. There are bound to be some mis judging in sizes. However, it is the belief of the personnel department that the number of mistakes can be cut down and they are asking for our cooperation. Rememiber, deadline for placing orders is Wednesday at 1 p. m. Management Group Pays Visit; Hear Talk On Anvil Brand Training Shelves For Printing Congratulations to the printing office which has finally gotten set tled in new quarters at one side of the pattern room. Since a number of shelves have been put in to take care of the numerous materials that must be kept on hand, the of fice has once again gotten into the good housekeeping class. Bill Thomas says other improvements and better arrangement of equip ment will be made when time is available. HAS BIRTHDAY — Brenda Jean Harris, daughter of lola Harris of the pants department, celebrated her fourth birthday on October 16. The Greensiboro Chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Management visited our Hudson division and the Tomlinson of High Point plant on November 5. A full afternoon schedule was arranged by Reitzel Morgan for the visitors, who came from all over the Pied- monst section of this state and from parts of Virginia. P. J. Monohon, of DuPont in Martinsville, Va., was chairman of the visitation. Members of the so ciety and special guests at the event had the choice of visiting Anvil Brand or Tomlinson and a large number chose to see our gar ment manufacturing operations. The visitation to plants begun at 2 p. ni. and acting as hosts to the visitors at Anvil Brand were Jack Rives, Supt. H. T. Short, Reitzel Morgan, Ossie Wright, Aline Car ter, and Helen Hughes. Zalph Ro chelle, personnel manager of Tom linson, arranged for the tour through the furniture plant. Mono hon said there were more visitors present for this visitation than at any other such event during the current year. After the plant visits the groups assembled in the Sheraton Room at the Sheraton Hotel for talks on methods of training supervisors end employees by Ossie Wright, our own training director, and W. T. Mattox, DuPont supervisor of training. Ossie outlined the pro cedures currently in use at Anvil Brand for instructing supervisors and training supervisors. She also explained the procedures used to organize our training department. 'Mattox discussed DuPont’s method of selecting foremen and their training procedure. Both talks were enlightening and well received by the visitors. After the speakers had finished Monohon led the entire group in an informal discussion of the points brought out. The gathering ended with a din ner at which Supt. Short rendered the invocation. All the members of the society seemed impressed with their visit and had words of high praise for both High Point firms. Holidays Anvil Brand employees in the plants will have Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27, as Thanksgiving holidays. The wheels of production will stop at the close of the work day on November 25 and many members of the Anvil Brand family will not report back to work until the following Mon day. All office workers, however, will work Friday, taking only the one day, November 26, as a holiday. In announcing the plant holi- ady schedule Production Man ager Jack Rives wished every one an enjoyable Thanksgiving week end.
