COOKIE BROOKS, Editor (Continued from Page One) They are ours only as we use our opportunities to obtain them. But in giving thanks at this season for our God-given and self- developed blessings, let us remem ber that underlying all that we are and all that we have are the prin ciples outlined by the founders of this nation: “The basic freedoms, the respect for individual rights and human dignity, and the con cept of equal opportunity for all men.” Not in all the world is there another nation providing for its citizens such liberties for achiev ing any goals within their ambi tions and their powers. For these gifts and privileges and accomplishments we can well look on every day as a proper day tor thanksgiving, beginning and concluding the day with grateful prayer for the rewards bestowed upon us from so many sources. Sincerely yours. UNITED FUN1)-RE1) CROSS — (Continued from Page One) ping, $44.57; office, $417.50; and mechanics, $71. I Especially to be congratulated this year are ladies’ dungaree which came up from a $49 contri bution last year; pants, which gave $310.50 in 1953; shipping, up from a $13 contribution in 1953; and the mechanics who last year were classified with their various departments and who number only an even dozen. It was the second United Fund- Red Cross drive for High Point and this year’s contributions indicate Anvil' Brand workers approve of the united way of giving. Sup ported by the money contributed to the drive are those agencies that supplement, rather than dup licate, the work of agencies sup ported by our tax dollars. All are necessary to the well being and successful growth of High Point. NEW SPRING LINE— (Continued from Page One) wave. Four are in a new type print with panel effect. These are made without pockets, because to place pockets on these shirts would break the panel design. There are long sleeved sport shirts, too, for both men and boys. Big news for boys are the new Ivy League (narrow leg) pants, with pleated front, zipper fly, dropped belt loops and flap pocket. There are two hip pockets, the front pockets are swings. They come in 8.5 oz. twill, in gray and tan. Mothers of larger boys will be glad to learn that Anvil Brand’s spring line also includes shorts in 8.5 oz. twill in sizes four to six teen which have all the features of the Ivy League pants. A men’s sport slack in rayon linen is truly a “good looker.” It is wrinkle resistant, has pleated front, zipper fly, and matching self belt. It comes in navy, brown, spice blue, and beige. A walking short, in the same colors, also has pleated front, zipper fly, match ing self belt, and is made of the same material. It looks high styled, a big improvement over the old walking short. The rayon butcher linen is fully washable. The legs of the shorts are slight ly smaller in keeping with the latest style. Improvement has been made in last year’s hobbies. They are tail ored and have tabs over the hips with two buttons for take-up in stead of elastic band in the back. Also, men’s denim shorts are made on the same style and, like the hobbies, come in three colors, faded blue, charcoal, and brown. The Kiddies haven’t been for gotten in the spring line, either. There are two shirt and short combinations for kiddies in .plisse and three lot numbers in shirts in bright patterns. The staple kid dies, bib boxers, and shorts, come in a mixture of many bright colors in plisses. There is a wide choice of patterns and solid colors. Women’s wear makes headlines in the new spring line, also. Misses’ and girls’ matadors in washable corduroy come in jet black with pink cuff trim, flame with white trim, and charcoal with coral trim. The button trim mata dors, mediumi weight twill, come in gold Paget brown, copen blue, jet black, flame red, Indian copper, and khaki. The lace trim numbers also are being continued. Misses’ Bermuda shorts are manufactured from the rayon linen used in the men’s sport slacks and walking shorts. Colors are navy, brown, spice blue, and Sewing Up Sales by Hugh Webster in I The bringing out of the Spring line is the culmination of many hours of planning, dreaming, and work of many people. The com pleteness, detail, design and breadth is undoubtedly due more to Helen Hughes’ efforts than any other one person. But, the Spring line, as in all Anvil and Tractor Brand goods, is the work, thought and sincerity of everyone in the organization. Sometimes someone asks, “Why do you work?” The first answer is usually “Money—and desire for security,” and no question but that is necessarily first. But what real ly makes us enjoy our work and gives us the kick out of a job well done, is the sense of contribution and the opportunity of self expres sion when we create something. All of us have the urge and de sire to produce and create. In manufacturing, shipping and sell ing Anvil Brand and Tractor Brand, each of us has contributed our lot to futher strengthen our goods and our company among our customers. Whether or not you personally cut, sewed or shipped our Spring samples, through your daily work you contributed in the making of this 1955 Spring Line. All of us had a part in enabling our company to offer these new goods and each one of you must personally feel proud of your con tribution toward creating these smart, useful garments that will enable our company to continue to branch out and grow. beige. Medium weig^ twill Ber muda shorts come in gold, Paget brown, copen blue, jet black, flame red, Indian copper, and khaki. Poplin regular shorts and shorty shorts for both misses’ and girls’ have a Zeset finish (something ex tra special in good looks) which is wrinkle resistant. Colors are fawn. Island blue, navy, gold, red, sandalwood, charcoal, black, and Nassau orange. All white shorts are of the heavier topsail cloth. A new construction job has been done on the shorty short, making legs tighter and giving more length through the torso. They have two darts in front, back button band and a locking zipper covered with full fly. And, of course, don’t overlook the new slimeree, designed to make small hips out of big ones and coming in 'black and red twill and in blue denim. The colors and materials in the women’s blouses are just as ex citing as those for men and boys. There are short sleeves and sleeve less in such wrinkle shed and wrinkle resistant materials as Dan Rived gingham, Santone combed cotton, plisses, and many others. There are plaids, solids, and many beautiful patterns. HANDSOME — He’s Fred Earnest Lovelace, 8-year-old son of Thelma Lovelace at Independ ence and a brother to Frances. He is in the second grade.
