MARCH ISSUE SEW IT SEAMS Pa^re Three Yates Retires After 26 Years With Anvil Brand Osar L. Yates, who this year ^ was in his 26th year of employ ment with Anvil Brand, has re tired to take life a little easier. Affectionately known as “Red” and “Booger” to the employees who had worked with him for years, Yates will be greatly missed. However, an asthmatic condition is enforcing him to be a little less active. But this by no means indicates he is going to sit idly all the time. “Sew It Seams interviewed him at his home on South Westchester Drive last week and found “a little gardening” and a workshop in his garage where he saws wood, will fill many of his hours. And al though he didn’t elaborate on other plans, he obviously has other ac tivities in mind. Yates came to work for Anvil Brand in 1929, after 11 years with another garment firm in Vir ginia, and has been with the local company continuously since that time. Last year he was presented with a gold watch in recognition f> of his services. His job was listed as utility operator in the Shipping Room, but many other duties just naturally gravitated to him be cause, as his fellow workers said, he performed his work so willingly and conscientiously. Mrs. Yates, the former Ethel Linberger, and the Yates’ daughter, Mrs. Margaret Outlaw and her two sons, Robert and Norman, live in the Yates home. Another daugh ter, Mrs. Elizabeth Boswell lives in Thomasville. A lot of changes have come about in the industry since Yates first became connected with it and he has seen Anvil grow from one plant to three in High Point. “Anvil Brand is a good place to work,” Yates said. We’re sure his associates agree Yates was a “good worker” for Anvil Brand. We’ve used up some 20 billion household electric light bulbs since they first came on the market. Nearly 1,1000,000,000 are sold each year. WINS PROMOTION — John Turner, 19, is shown above operat ing the stamping machine, one of his new duties at the mailing desk, •lohn is a graduate of High Point High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Turner of 1007 Cen tennial Avenue. He has been with Anvil Brand since last July, hav ing worked in the stock room and as a checker before being promot ed to the mail desk. John said he doesn’t plan to attend college, but hopes to have a future with Anvil Brand. \ RETIRED—More time for sitting in an easy chair and reading mag azines is what Oscar L. “Red” Yates, will have now that he has retired from his work at Anvil Brand. However, “retirement” for him evidently doesn’t mean all sitting and reading; gardening and other activities apparently have a big part in his future plans.
