Page 6 Sew It Seams Spring Quarter Mary Hamilton is "Jane of All Trades" Her name is Mary, but you could call her a “]ane of All Trades” and not be far wrong. She’s Mary Hamilton of Sher rod Division and she’s been sewing a fine seam for Anvil Brand since 1945, she makes her own clothes, she writes poetry, she’s a Sunday School teacher, and among other things, she’s a photographer. Mary started in photography in earnest some three years ago when her husband became totally disabled after a stroke. Prior to that her husband had maintained a studio in their home and Mary had assisted him some. “My hiisband didn’t want to get “I hesitated to say how long it rid of the equipment he had ac quired and urged me to try my hand at the photographing,” Mary said. “Well, I learned and now I even do my own tinting and light oils.” She added that her hours are from five to eight p.m. week days and all day Saturday. Some samples of her work accompany this story. When Mary first applied for work at Anvil Brand back in 1945, she had qualms about her chances of holding down a job. “It had been 15 years since I had held a job and that was in a shirt factory back in Lynchburg, Va.,” she said. had been so I just said I hadn’t worked for over 10 years. “Well, I got the job and have been with Anvil Brand ever since except for a few months in 1950 when my husband was sent to Portland, Ore., during the Korean war, when his company was open ing a branch in that city. We stayed out there several months, which was a wonderful experience, and then returned to High Point. I went back to my job and have been working ever since. Mary and her husband, S. ‘Cecil Hamilton, and one daughter live at 3703 South Main. MARY AND HER CAMERA SHERRY Rhonda Lax—Rhonda was one of Mary’s subjects as was Sherry Southern, grand daughter of Ruth Samuels, supervisor in Pants Depart ment. Rhonda sews on but tons in Pants and has been with the company about two years. Sherry lives in Dublin, Va., with her parents. RONDA
