Candidates For Commission Must Turn In Petitions; Election Set September 9 The third Model City Commission election will be held Saturday, Sep tember 9. Petitions for Model Neigh borhood representatives are now avail able at the Model Cities office, 609 S. Main Street, and at Citizen Par ticipation, 1305 Franklin Street. Meet 4 More Commissioners neighborhood elections. The Model City Commission has a total of 40 members. Of these, 18 come directly from the target neighborhood, four are youth representatives, and 18 are from agencies and organizations from the community at large. REV. W. S. TEACHEY Agency Representative Ministerial Alliance NELLIE ROBINSON Macedonia Neighborhood Factory Worker spring Construction Worker ^nterns Join Staff For Summer; \Gather Information For CD Plan Four interns have been added to the Istaff of the City Demonstration Agen- Icy to gather information for Model I Cities this summer. They are John Kavanagh of Greens- Iboro, a recent graduate of the Uni versity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Barbara Carter, a recent graduate of East Carolina University, Green- ' ville; and Gloria Jean Ingram and Phyllis Mebane, rising juniors at N.C. Central University, Durham. A fifth member of the intern staff, Roger Garrick, who was with Model Cities two previous summers, has al ready left to accept another internship in Washington. The interns’ assignment is to gather data to support a condition statement for the City of High Point, to tie in with an eventual plan for Community Development. In plainer terms, their job is to pool information from many sources into a useful form to be used by planners from Model Cities and city govern ment. They are obtaining facts and figures from numerous sources such as the Guilford County Health Department, High Point Memorial Hospital, Social Services Department, Employment Security Commission, Greensboro Youth Services Bureau, and existing Model Citips projects. The information relates to the Model Cities program areas of health, en vironment, social services, employment and business development, crime and juvenile delinquency, and recreation. Assigned to the Research and De velopment staff under the direction of Ben Smith, the interns will be at work until September.
