Chancellor Julius LcVonne Chambers, NCCU's eighth chief administra tor, will officially take office next Friday, October 22, during a ceremony to be held at McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium. All classes that normally meet between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Fridays will be cancelled so that students and faculty may attend the event. The installation ceremony is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. Inaugural Committee Co-Chair Sarah Bell-Lucas and her fellow committee members have been planning the event since early March. Ms. Bell-Lucas explained that around 7,000 invitations went out in August to students, faculty, staff, alumni, special friends of the University and delegates from every university in the United States. W^th the inauguration of Duke’s new President sched uled for Saturday the 23rd, responses have been heavy. In addition to the ceremony itself, a wide variety of events has been planned to celebrate the installation of Chambers. Departments across campus have scheduled several symposiums, displays, presentations, lectures and panels beginning this Sunday and continuing throughout the week. (See Schedule of Events.) Ms. Bell-Lucas also explained that a large number of NCCU's distinguished faculty and alumni will be par ticipating in the week’s events. The Honorable Eva Clayton of the U.S. House of Representatives will be speaking at the Scholarship Banquet honoring Chancellor Chambers on Tuesday.
