Frances Tate, assistant head nurse on McDowell, has received a gorgeous diamond from John Farrington, UNC medical student. No date has been set. Dr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson and their two hand some sons, Charles Benjamin, two and a half, and Robert, Jr. , seven months, were re cent visitors in the city. Mrs. Thompson was Elizabeth Hines, Duke graduate and for mer staff member. Dr, Thompson has been in prac tice in pediatrics in Texas and has just reported to Greenville, S, C. for Air Force duty. Jim Kelly, senior medi cal student, and Eva Gott- schall. X-ray technician, will be married in March. Dr. and Mrs. Bud Mohr are now in Washington, D.C. , where Dr. Mohr is furthering his education and Betsy is on the Gallinger Hospital staff. Rosa Lee Lewis, Duke graduate nurse and former staff member, paid a pop vis it during the holidays. She is now on the delivery room staff of the University of Maryland Hospital. Helen Plyler and Mrs. Elizabeth Gilbert have re turned from an intensive three-week study course on "Team Method of Assignment" at Columbia University. They are now applying their learn ing on Cushing, which they are setting up as a pilot ward. Dr. and Mrs. John McColl are the proud parents of a daughter, born Nov. 18 at Duke. A daughter, Susanne, was born to Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Bowers on Nov. 27. They also have a son, Trippie, who is three. Dr. Malone Rosemond and Sally Ann Hurlburt spoke their wedding vows Jan. 2 in Salem, Ohio. Dr. Rosemond is on the pediatrics staff and Ann is a physical therapist. Miss Thelma Ingles has returned to the States after a four-month tour of Europe. Mr. and Mrs. J.P. O'Don nell announce the birth of a daughter, Ellen, on Jan. 4. Mrs. O'Donnell was Millie Miller, Duke graduate who was on the nursing staff until Dec. 19. NEW LOOK FOR PAYROLL IBM has come to Duke Hospital to stay. The first use is with the payroll proce dure and therefore it is of in terest to all Hospital and School of Medicine employees. The change was made on Jan uary 1, 1954, Salaries and wages con stitute about 55% of the budget and therefore we must be as careful of the payroll dollar as we are of the dollar spent for supplies and maintenance. The first spasm has passed, but after we have worked with the system for a few payroll periods the kinks will iron out. Everyone is urged to co operate during this adjust ment period in order to make the system work smoothly. If in doubt as to instructions contact the Personnel Office.
