Page 2 Z)kU Tjkat Physical Therapy Wedding^ bells liave boon ringing this summer in the physical therapy department. Sue (-arter was married to Martin Jordan in Chapel Hill on June 11. On Friday, July 15, ^Martha Freeman married a Duke Medical Student, James Brewer, in Provi dence, Rhode Island. “Bebe” Cam])- bell was her maid of honor. Johanna Hutchinson left Duke in ilay to work at the Koyal Victoria Hospital in Montreal before return ing to her home in England. Jo is being replaced by Miss Rosemary Lane from Hammersmith Hospital, London, England. Also leaving \xs is our secretary, Thomasene, “Tom mie” Bennett, who is to work part time as a B.M.R. Technician. The other new member of our staff is Mrs. Dorothy Peterson. Mrs. Peter son is a graduate of Boston Univer sity and has worked for the past year at Grace New Haven Hospital. Ellie Flanagan, Conny Jenks and Helen Kaiser attended the P. T. Con vention in St. Louis from June 19-24, and participated in School Section Workshops preceding the convention. Miss Kaiser is the (Chairman of this secticm. The convention was also a reiniion for about 17 former Dnke ITiiiversity physical therapy staff membei's and students who were there. Elizabeth Pendergraft, Com pensation and Liability Officer, left June 25 by j)lane for ('alifornia. Mrs. Pendergraft toured California and motored home. Pat Brantley (dental assistant to Dr. B. B. Sapp) motored to Phila delphia, then planed to Flint, Michi gan visiting her parents for a week. Betsy Farmer, Lab. Technician, left July 23 for vacation in Bermuda. Betsy made her trij) by plane. Sarah Kirkpatrick sjient the week of June 16-19 at Atlantic Beach. Mrs. Graeye Carver, Registered Nurse in S.P.D.C, is recuperating Duke Hospital, InterCom from an acute ajjpendectomy June 27. Welcome to Mrs. Carrie Weiss (husband Ed is .‘3rd year ^Medical Student) who is now secretary to Dr. Lenox D. Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth B. Compton are the ])arents of a new son, Keith Alan ('ompton, born June 21. ]\Irs. Compton is better known as Helen, former secretary to Dr. Ken neth Pickrell. Dr. and Mrs. Richard Brandon Rankin are the ])arents of a son, Richard Brandon Rankin 111. -Mrs. Rankin is better known as Bert, secretary to Dr. Lenox 1). Baker. Alma Wiggs, who was with us last year, but returned to school for a semester, is with us for the sunnner. Wedding bells are ringing for her in September. Multilith Department ^Irs. Faye Shamel is a comparative newcomer to the depai'tment, having started work in June after gi-aduat- ing from Bragtown High. Her hus band, Frantz, is in the Air Force and is now stationed in Missouri. Robert Hobbs has just returned fi'om a two-week vacation, one week of which w'as s])ent in Daytona Beach, Florida.—N. F. Carden, Jr. Business Office The Business Office is ha])])y to have lhr(^e new girls who were added to the office force in June. They are Cai'oi Sue Dowdy and Lillie JIae iloore, graduates of Dui'ham High School, and Nancy King, a graduate of Bragtown High School. ^largaret Daniel enjoyed the cool breeze of Myrtle Beach while tlie Business Office sweltered in the warm breezes of Duke Hospital. Bacteriology Shirley Owens of Roxboro was married July :5() to Slade (h'umpton of Roxboro. Mrs. Ann Shands of Jacksonville, Fla., is replacing Dorcas Sunnnrell as technician. Dorcas leaves shortly after marrying Dr. Jose L. Miranda of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ruby McCracken of Buckhead, Ga., has joined the Bacteriology Dc'part- ment as a research assistant. More than 500 employees and their families attended the staff get-to gether on Saturday, July 23. Good food and good entertainment were provided by the planning commit tee, headed by Dr. Kenneth Penrod, with Jean Blackstone, Ann Barnes, Minnie Jones, Lorene Bates, Dr. Ralph Arnold, Morton Bogdonoff, Dr. Alex Woods, Don McGrath and Flint Carden as members.
