Page 8 Duke Hospital, InterGom Medicine Mrs. Shirley Fergxisoii, secretary to Dr. McIntosh, leaves the department early in June to go back to school. Within about a year she will be qual ified to teach elementary grades. We lose a splendid secretary, but we ad mire her ambition. Physiotherapy Mrs. Jean W’^olf, one of our Dec. '57 graduates, has replaced her class mate, Penny W’^ood, who travels to Utah to be married to Mr. C. Michael Margetts. Members of the staff awarded O.V.K. scholarships recently to parti cipate in institutes were; Jean Gerrie for the course “Neurophysiological Bases for Rehabilitation” at the Uni versity of Pennsylvania, and John Riebel for New York Medical Col lege’s course on “Principles and Practices of Geriatric Rehabilita tion.” Miss Kaiser and Lois Perkins visit ed the National Institutes of Health and attended a meeting of the Eastern Section, Congress of Physical Medi cine and Rehabilitation, in Washing ton. Medical Record Library Mrs. Augusta Kirkland, retiring president of the State Medical Record Librarians, was nominated a delegate to the national meeting Oct. 18-16 in Boston. We welcome bac;k two former em ployees : Nancy Graham and Angie Wiggins. Mrs. Bufkin conducted a Seminar on Medical Records in Roanoke, Va. the last of May. Nursing School W'ord comes of the appointment of Dr. Helen Nahm, Professor of Nurs ing Education at Duke from 1946-50, as dean of the University of Califor nia School of Nursing, San Francisco. ON THE GO Nan Alyea, secretary to Dr. An- lyan, and Ann Forbes, Pediatric Nurse, sail for Europe July 28. They plan a three and a half months tour of the continent, including a stop at the W’^orld’s Fair in Brussels. Margaret Riddle, secretary to Dr. Kunkle, left May 26 to w'ork at an Air Force hospital in W'^iesbaden, 'Germany. Dr. Arnold Weissler, Instructor in Medicine, has been accepted by the American Heart Association as a suc cessful applicant for a travelling fel lowship to Brussels, Belgium, this September. He will attend the Third International Conference on Cardi ology. Dr. W’^eissler will be chief resi dent on Medicine for 1958-59. Dr. and Mrs. Wiley Forbus spent the month of May in Europe, visiting France, Germany, Italy and the World’s Fair in Belgium. During ’ Aj)ril Dr. Faubu.s was on a mission for the Surgeon General of the U. S. Army in France and Germany. Chaplains on Call A chaplain is now on call at the hospital 2i liours a day. Beginning July 1 Mr. P. W’^. Aitken will move from a half-time to a fidl-timc basis as Chaplain to the hospital. In addi tion an advanced training program offers graduate ordained ministers clinical training, with three men now in the program. A second graduate ])rogram is designed for one student at a time and is run jointly by the Chaplain’s Department and the Psy chiatry Department in eooi)cration with the Army (-haplain’s Service. This offers 18 month’s training. Both programs are for mature, seasoned men. Mr. Aitken and these graduate students rotate on a call basis to pro vide continuous service. Duke Hospital Durham, N. C.
