Miss Wright is the first recipient of a new scholarship in nursing set up by the auxiliary in honor of Miss Clark, former director of nursing service at the hospital, (staff photo) Auxillans Announce Scholarship Administration Honors Duke Auxiliary The DuKe Hospital Auxiliary March 19 announced establishment of a new scholarship in the Duke School of Nursing in honor of Miss Lelia R. Clark. The announcement came at the annual "thank-you" dinner given for all auxilians by the hospital administration. Miss Clark, former director of nursing service at Duke, attended the dinner along with Miss Deborah Wright, a Duke nursing student and first winner of the new grant. Dr. Stuart M. Sessoms, hospital director, served as master of ceremonies for the event and offered his thanks to the members for their dedicated service to the hospital. Mrs. George Maddox, auxiliary president, gave the response to Dr. Sessoms' comments. Mrs. Audrey Silberman, who completed three years as president of the group in January, was awarded her past president's pin by Dr. Sessoms. The approximately 100 auxiliary, members present then heard Mr. George M. Stockbridge, executive vice-president of the Health Planning Council of central North Carolina, «peak on medical quackery. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Manchester of the auxiliary made the official announcement of the new scholarship. It will cover all tuition and fees and will be awarded annually to an undergraduate nursing student at Duke, preferably a North Carolina student. Prerequisites for the recipient include a good academic record, financial need, and exemplification of the qualities of a dedicated nurse. The recipient, who may have the scholarship renewed if the selection committee thinks it appropriate, is to be chosen by the dean of the School of Nursing, her staff, and the president of the Duke Hospital Auxiliary. Miss Wright, who is from Wadesboro, North Carolina, is a sophomore at Duke and a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Wright of Wadesboro.
