Reporter: Ruby Weaver SEEP (continued from page 1) conclusion of this 10-week program culminates in an evaluation symposium in which the students evaluate the program and the faculty evaluates the students. According to Dr. Lieberman, the program is designed for three purposes; "1—to open opportunities for students by providing them with information about medical school opportunities that previously they were either unaware of or misinformed about; 2-to provide students with considerable information about medical careers so that the students can direct their efforts in seeking a career in medical education, and 3—to enable the students to evaluate their performance in a medical school environment as well as to evaluate the opportunities for minority students in medicine at Duke and other institutions." The conclusion of this year's program will bring with it the third and final year of SEEP's existence. The extent to which SEEP has been a successful program is based, in part, on the placement of those students who participated in the program and obtained their college degrees. According to Dr. Lieberman's estimates of the first two years of the program, 17 students took part in the program and the majority of them embarked on careers related to medicine and public health. He also estimated that since the commencement of-SEEP, "the total number of applicants at Duke increased two-fold whereas the number of black applicants increased six-fold." "Indeed," Dr. Lieberman added, "we have a long way to go, but at least we are heading in the right direction." Trading Post FOR SALE-6,000 BTU, 115 Volt., TA amp. air conditioner, $65. Call 477-8008.
