Day, professor of immunology and experimental surgery, is the author of a new book entitled ''Advanced Immuno- chemistry" which was published by Williams and Wilkins Company of Baltimore, Md. and was released on July 10. Attends Meeting Dr. Jack D. Davidson, associate professor of radiology, attended the annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine in Boston, Mass., July 11-14. Dr. Davidson presented a teaching session on "Digoxin Radioimmunoassay" at the meeting. Attends Meeting Dr. George G. Somien, professor of physiology, attended the 5th International Pharmacology Congress in San Francisco, California, July 24-28. He presented two papers at the meeting on organic mercury poisoning of the nervous system and depressant drugs. Dr. Somjen's book, "Sensory Coding in the Mammalian Nervous System," published by Appleton-Century-Crofts, appeared in July. A volume edited by Dr. Somjen entitled "Neurophysiology Studied in Man, Excerpta Medica," will appear this summer. Conducts Symposium Dr. Gerald J. Musante, associate professor of psychiatry, conducted a symposium in July on "Social Rehabilitation and Control in Corrections." The theme was to explore a closer relationship between universities and the Department of Corrections of North Carolina. Attends Convention RTs James Miller, Eric Porter, and Cindy Kirby attended the annual convention of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists in Denver, Colo., July 15-20. Participates Dr. Frank Bassett, associate professor of orthopaedic surgery, participated in a course on athletic injuries in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., July 3-4. Elected Dr. Jacquelyne Jackson, associate professor of medical sociology, has been elected member of the board of trustees of the Carver Research Foundation of Tuskegee Institute and a member of the nominating committee of the American Sociological Association. Dr. Jackson will assume the duties of editor of the "Journal of Health and Social Behavior" in September. All employes of the Medical Center and visitors are asked to read carefully the following announcements concerning the new Parking Garage and the routing of traffic for the next four weeks while the garage and access roads are being completed. Beginning Friday, August 4, 1972 the first floor of the Parking Garage will be closed and the second level will be opened to permit the contractor to complete the ground level and to widen Fulton Street. Fulton Street between Trent Drive and Hospital Drive will be closed temporarily in two stages. 1. From August 4 to August 20 the section between Hospital Drive and the exit from the new toll booths will be closed. Traffic will enter from Trent Drive. 2. From August 20 to August 26 the section between Trent Drive and the Toll booths will be closed and traffic will enter from Hospital Drive and Fulton Street. Signs and barricades will be erected to minimize the confusion on the part of motorists. Parking along Trent Drive from Hanes House to the traffic light in front of Baker House will be ejiminated in order to improve visability and safety for motorists entering Trent Drive from Fulton Street. Please take note that Duke University is initiating a new parking system, effective September 1, 1972. As a result, all of the current decals will no longer be valid after August 31, 1972. A registration fee of $12 will be charged and this can be paid in full or by payroll deduction. Re-registration for all Medical Center employes will begin Monday, August 21, and continue through Friday, August 25, in the Hospital, basement corridor, red zone, outside Medical Records. The hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for daytime personnel. Evening employees can register from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Wednesday, in the same location.
