2 Institute plans coffee The Institute for Learning in Retirement will have a coffee on Monday, Jan. 8, from 1-3 p.m. Any resident in the area who is interested in finding out more about the institute's program is invited. The coffee will be held in the East Campus Center. Officers and members of the institute will be there to discuss the new programs and to answer questions about the structure and purpose of the institute. Registration for the next semester will be held Jan. 10-11 and courses will start Jan. 15. The semester will consist of two seven-week periods with a two-week spring break. Seventeen different courses will be offered to those registering for the coming semester. Among these classes are Conversational French, Art History, Chemistry and Societal Problems, TV Production, Dublin: The Early Abbey Theatre, Swimming and Current Events. There also will be courses in advanced semantics, short story discussion and photography as a social force. Cost of the program to members is $104 per year and membership is open to anyone over 50 who has intellectual curiosity. While some members have advanced degrees, others are high school graduates. Members have retired from careers in business, law, medicine, teaching and home and community work. For further information call the Office of Continuing Education at 684-6259. Circulation: Ann Alston Franz Kafka exhibit Currently on display in the gallery of the Perkins Library is a photographic exhibition portraying the life and works of Austrian writer Franz Kafka (1883- 1924). The exhibit is sponsored by the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, Atlanta. The exhibition will be shown in two parts. Part One on the early years will remain on display until Jan. 12. Part Two on the later years will be displayed from Jan. 12-22. Copies of a guide to the exhibition are available upon request at the Reference Desk.
