Another Scholarship For SCC The Lake Waccamaw Woman’s Club has awarded a scholarship to Southeastern Community College for a worthy student chosen by the college’s financial aid committee. The presentation was made Wednesday by Mrs. Grant H. Egley in ceremonies in the office of SCC President E. Philip Comrr. Taking part in the program were Mrs. Hugh Moore, Southeastern’s co-ordinator of financial aid, and Mrs. L. Poe ^rnes of Fair Bluff, a member of the college staff and secretary of the financial aid committee. Mrs. Egley said the Lake Waccamaw Woman’s Club “is delighted to be able to participate in a college scholarship program.” She said the club will review its participation annually. President Comer expressed pleasure on behalf of the college in having the woman’s group offer a scholarship to a worthy student. “We are glad to have this participation,” Comer said, “and we have students who need it to be able to remain in school. It will be put to good use.” Much needed space and facilities are soon to become reality in the very near future as plans for building “D” have passed the planning stages and approaches the construction of the new estimated $575,000 building. The bids for the new building have already been advertised and bids will be accepted after January 7, 1969 and will be opened for thirty days. At this time the proper bid will be approved and notice will be given of the award and the construction crews should begin immediately. It is estimated tiiat the building will begin in early February of 1969 and finish about twelve months later, in the spring of 1970. Classrooms, faculty offices, programmed instruction center, seminar rooms, student lounge and gym will occupy the 25,000 square foot building. The building will be two stories high with a regulation basketball court and locker room facilities with showers. The permanent student lounge will be located in this building, being basically the same as the present system but on a larger schedule. Business manager W. L. Eddlns stated, “The building serves two major purposes, a permanent and more suitable physical education area and a complete and permanent student lounge area.” Much needed faculty office space will also be relieved.
