The play "Valley Farm," which was given here Saturday evening, showed real ability in the Department of Expres sion, and was well patronized. Mr. G. S. Wellbome, of the Univer sity of North Garolina, spent Friday night ^ here. From his frequent visits here he seems to be in love with tlon. ^ Miss Lois Davidson’s friends will be glad to learn she stood her operation in St. Leo’s Hospital all right and is getting on nicely. She expects to be back in College before long. In the Philologian Society Friday evening Mr. R. A. Truitt was the best speaker oratorically. Debate, query: f^esolved, "That poverty causes more crimes than riches." Best speaker on the negative, A. T. Banks; best speaker on the affirmative, J. S. Truitt. In the Christian Endeavor Society Sunday evening was the monthly conse cration meeting. B. J. Earpe was lead er ; subject, " Christ our Guide," The meeting seemed to be a real consecration service. A vocal solo by W, W. Elder added much to the meeting. In the Clio Society Friday evening J. A. Dickey was the best speaker orator ically. Debate, query: Resolved, " That the present criticism of President Taft’s administration is justifiable." Won by the affirmative. Best speaker on the af firmative, J. W. Barney; best speaker on the negative, R. A. Campbell. The baseball club played a practice game on the home grounds Monday af ternoon, the 7th, with the team from Whitsett Institute.
