The Elon College Weekly. Among the Alumni. Miss Mary Watson'02 taught in the public schools of Burlington several years. She married Mr. T. L. Chandler, a rail way contractor, and they have lived in West Virginia until recently. They nowf reside at Virgilina, Va. Mrs. Chandler is visiting at her father’s here, Dr. G. S. Watson’s. Rev. H. E. Rountree, ’03 entered actively into the calling of the gospel ministry, upon his graduation and has been successful. He has been located at Waverly, Va., several years, where he is pastor of the Christian Church. He is prominent m the work of the Virginia State Sunday-School Association and is an active, useful member of the Sunday- School and conference work of the Eas tern Virginia Christian Conference. Miss Bessie Staley '98 spent a year at the University of North Carolina, traveled extensively in Europe, published a series of travel articles in the Christian Sun, taught in Suffolk, Va., and Raleigh, N. C., and married Mr. Thomas Cheat ham, a prominent young man in business in Greenville, N. C. Rev. J. H. Jones, ’94, spent three' years in the Divinity School of Harvard University, graduating with the degree of 1 Bachelor of Divinity. He became a minister in the Unitarian Church, and is 1 now pastor of the Unitarian Church in ! Topeka, Kansas. Rev. W. D. Harward ’96 did a ■ year’s post graduate work at the Univer sity of North Carolina, devoted his time thereafter to the gospel ministry in the Christian Church, going early into the Eastern Virginia Christian Conference. He is now pastor of the Christian Church at Madrid, Iowa, Miss Elstelle WaJker ’99. married W. A. Harper, and has taken sympa thetic interest in his labors and in his ad vancement. She was with him when ! doing post graduate work at Yale, and j has completed the course in music since j her husband became a member of the Elon faculty, thus keeping pace with his advancement in culture. W. J. Laine, ’94, studied in the Divinity School at Harvard University, entered the Christian ministry, but, after a brief, yet very successful career menac ed by failing health, died before he had reached his prime. R. T. Hurley, '94, graduated from the Law School at the University of North Carolina, began practicing his profession under favorable surroundings at Troy, N. C., the capital of his native county. His health failed suddenly. His fine physique yielded to persistent disease. He sought relief at Jons Hop kins Hospital, but died there soon after his anival. I suppose my brother has entered school, as I had a letter from home to night, saying that he would go on Satur day. Now 1 feel like saying that I hope and trust the faculty at Elon College will do for my brother what they have done for me. 1 now begin to appreciate and realize the thoroughness of work done at Elon College, and 1 am proud to say that 1 am one of her sons though very young in life. 1 am proud of my alma mater and I shall always do all in my power for the welfare and upbuilding of the college. The university is merely a college to me, the same kind of profes sors instruct me, and going from Elon to the University just seems as a continous journey in the road of knowledge. 1 am glad Elon had such a splendid opening.
