Mr. Register’s speech was magnificent.
We are still wondering what he had to
say.
Again, Stanfield appeared in the
stage. This time he sang a solo, which
was very good. Every one, even Dr.
Amick, enjoyed Stanfield's singing.
The best number in the program was
the reading given by Prof. Van Cleave.
He also gave a fine demonstration of
his dancing ability. I am sure that
every one enjoyed Prof. Van Cleave’s
dancing and reading.
Finally, every one of the spectators
was asked to walk around the gymn,
so that the winner of the prize given
for the person who wore the best cos
tume could be chosen. The judges de
cided that Miss MacKinny had the best
eostvrnc: therefore she obtained the
prize, a magnificent ring.
Before the feast was over, every per
son present was given a pack of good
peanuts and an apple. All this w'as
furnished by the Religions Activities
Organization.

campaign speakers.
Shortly after the withdrawal of the
candidates the campaign speakers com
menced to magnify the platform upon
which tlieir candidate stood and bring
to light tlie noble cliaracteristics that
fitted liim for the high officc of presi
dent of the Freshman Class. The cam
paign speakers indirectly stated that
they wanted a president that stood for
a high protective tariff on all Sopho'-
more foolishness, and who stood pat on
an anti-bunk platform.
Catholicism did not enter into the
campaign, but State boundary lines
did. Some one objected to’ Roberts be
cause he was not a North Carolinian,
but the objection was laughed down.
They laughed not because it was so
hilariously funny; but in tribute to its
absurdity.
Sally Elder Speaks For Watson
Sally Elder, a popular and attractive
co-ed, made an impressive and influent
ial speech in behalf of Wral Watson.
Her speech came at an opportune time
and did much to mold opinion in favor
of Mr. Watson.
The Ballots Are Cast
It took only three ballots to give
Dickerson the required majority. After
he was elected by a majority the class
gave him a unanimous vol^e to show
that they were solidly behind him.
Wral Watson, who ran second to
Dickerson, was elected vice-president;
Mabel Barrett, secretary, and Frances
Ring, treasurer.
Among the outstanding campaign
speakers were: Truett, Peoples, Lewis,
Jones, Richardson, Parker, Chandler,
Parks, Yates, Lockhart, and Miss Elder.
Elon College should be very proud of
the Class of ’32. The class consists of
a select group of clean-cut young men
and women who have something to say
and know how to say it. They are the
backbone of Elon College and are fully
capable of helping the Maroon and Gold
to the goal of success and distinction.
Three cheers for the Freshmen! !
They are the leaven of the campus!

also be a thorough discussion of the
philosophy of education.
Mr. Cannon continues president of

MUSICAL PROGRAM

The Schubert musical program on

music lovers who attended. At the be
ginning of the program Mrs. Lucas read
a paper on the life and works of Schu
bert. Then she and Mrs. Ware gave
the follwoing program;
By the Sea—(Liszt transcription),
Mrs. Lucas.
Impromptu in B Flat—Mrs. Lucas.
Linden Tree—Mrs. Ware.
Du Bist Die Ruh—Mrs. Ware.
Minnetto—Mrs. Lucas.
Moment Musical—Mrs. Lucas.
Walt in A Major—^Mrs. Lucas.
Hedge Roses—Mrs. Ware.
Who is Sylvia?—Mrs. Ware.
After this, Mrs. Ware favored us with
an encore entitled. Lady Moo-n. This
was by special request.
Mrs. Lucas concluded the program
w'ith two of Schubert’s Impromptues in
A Major.
