COURT SCHEDULE
OF COMING GAMES
Elan will play host to Cataw-
North"'!^ t important
iNorth State contest.
Catawba has always been an
Elon jinx and this g-ame will not
be different; they will be gunn-
for an upset victory tonight,
felon will journey to Guilford
Tuesday night to meet the Qua-
kers in another North State bas
ketball game. Although Elon is
ttie much stronger team it will
tiiave to be considered that they
are playing in Gnilfords’ new
g'ym and the Quakers would like
I tj? defeat
the Chn^ans. Gailford, paced
by those Parker twins, can easily
spoil Eldon’s chance for a North
*tate chajTtpionship.
On the 29th and 30ti of Janu
ary Elon aad Atlantic Christian
will meet in Elon’s gym in two
North Stat« games. Atlantic
Oflnstian has a much improved
basketbali teaim from last eea-i
son and from all indications i
they will 'be ant to give Elon a |
to^h ^rap in> these two games. I
On Feb. 1, Elon will travel
to Salisbury to meet Catawba in
a return game. Elon w^H not
forpf the game at Catawba
last year, after' the Christians
had won 14 stra%ht games and
■»^re headed for a North State
championship, Catawba handed
tliem their first setback.
Ob Feb. 5, Elcm will play a
return game with Hanes Hosiery
Winston Salem and tMs will
be a game worth seeing. Hanes,
"ne o-f the finest seroi-pro team-’
n the state, will be cut to avenge
the 47 to 36 defeat handed them
by Elon in the early part of the

Sigma Phi AKead In
Intramural Leaguz
Four day’s after our return
from Christmas holidays, the
winter intramural basketball sea-1
son began under the supervision!
of Coach Brunansky and .Tacki
Boone. They have worked out j
a schedule which should provide
some interesting games.
Sigma Phi Beta leads the loop
at present having won the only
two games that they played. In
the first game with I. T. K. whom
they defeated by the score of
20-19, was possibly the most rx-
citing game of the season so far
at the half the score was tied and
at the close of the game there
was only one point difference. In
the second game they walloped
East Dorm by the score of 33-15.1
Alpha Phi Delta over ran Kap-l
pa Psi Nu 43-15. This was their
only game up to present time.
North Dorm A’s defeated the
Publishing House 23-20 and the
Carlton House defeated the Nortn
B’s 35-23. The Publishing House
B’s accepted a forfeit from the
vCatlton House.
Play v/as stopped last week
due to exams, however, it is now
under way again. Any night that
you don't have anything to do
drop around to the Gym and you
will be a.ssured of an entertain
ing evening.
I Professional football, which has
.fought its way up from a posi
tion as almost the lowest of ail
sports, at least is about to see the
light which dawned upon pro-
ifessional baseball years ago.
Rumors are persistent that club'
owners throughout the National
league will get together before
another season and will appoint
a czar of pro football who could
be compared to Judge Kenesaw
Mountain Landis, the ruler of
baseball.
Happenings of this past fall
demonstrate the reason for this
need and the reason that owners
are considering this move. After
whipping the Washington Red-1
skins 73 to 0, owners of the Chica
go Bears, already in possession of
a gridiron machine hailed as the
greatest of all time, maneuvered
other club owners into yielding
first place choices under the
draft system.
j Bears Hogged Choices
* As champions, the Bears, ac
cording to league rules, were sup
posed to be the last to get their
*oice of college stars, but actual
ly the way it worked out thev
practically had a monopoly on the
first ten choices. True, they re
imbursed other owners to some
extent, but not nearly to the
amount of full value of players
Wfhom they obtained.
• This move didn’t set very well
with the public. In the first
place they condemned the Bears
for hogging all the best players,
and m the second place they con
demned other club owners for be
ing so weak,

Since losing an overtime battle
to a strong High Point “Y” team
the Elon Christians have won six
I straight games. The forces of
Coach Hendrickson have won all
of tlieir games with points to
burn. The closest game of thei
six was with Hanes Hosiery of
Winston Salem, and they were'
j beaten by eleven points.
^ first of these six games'
tne Christians defeated the Whis-
kered WizardS’ a traveling bas-
tetball circus, by the count of
53 to 33. Capt. John Henry
Pearce and Jack Gardner led the
scoring with 11 points each. They
iwere closely followed by Potter
Hobson, and Zyvith, who had 9,
8, 7 points respectively. Potter
also turned in a good floor game
for the Elon five.
The next victim of the Chris
tians attack was Hanes Hosiery
Previous to this game Hanes had
split a brace of games with the
strong University of North Caro
line, White Phantoms, and have
conquered other outstanding teams
of the state such as; Duke, Wake
Forest, N. C. State, and Appal:,-
chian. Again Gardner led the
goring with 18 points. W. L.
Hobson was next high scorer with
10 points. The whole team per
formed well with Pearce and
Zyvith playing a fine floor game.
The ability of Pearch and Towrs
to get the ball off of the back
boards also contributed greatly to
\ e Elon victory.
On two successive nights the
boys in Maroon and Gold easily
defeated Western Carolina in their
first conference games of the year.,
In both of these games the Chris
tians used their height to a great
advantage. In the first of these
two contest the top scorers were
J^ck Gardner and “Spec” Towns.
The whole team played well and
the reserves saw much service.
The second game with Western
Carolina' was similar to the first
one. The Elon Cagers were too
much for a smaller, but scrappy
I Ca amount five. Max Zyvith.
I stellar guard, was the leading
scorer of the night bagging 12
points. Pearce, Hobson, Gardner,
and Towns also contributed heav-
ly to the scoring.
I After playing four straight
games at home the Christians
journeyed to Hickory, N. C. and
defeated Lenoir Rhyne, 77 to 34.
This was one of the best gam«’s
the Christians have turned in thus
far this season. Jumpin Jack
Gardner led the scoring parade
looping in 25 points. Hobson and
Cessna were next high scorers
with 14 and 13 points respective
ly. Potter and Pearce also turned
m good floor game for Coach
Hendrickson’s boys.
During the last several years
the McCrary Eagles, a fast semi-
pro team, of Asheboro, N C
have beaten all of the leading
coUege teams in the state except
Elon. Last Saturday night the
Christians again came out vic
torious over the Eagles by trounc
ing them 53 to 35. It was a rougli
and tumble affair but the Chris
tians proved too much for the
visiting team. Early in the game
the score was tied 3 all but the
Christians forged ahead and nev
er gave up their lead. Jack
Gardner, Elon’s leading scorer,
was in his usual form and ran -
up 17 points. “Spec” Town^
towering pivot man, played a bang
UD game and bagged 10 point^
Capt. John Henry Pearce and
Zyvith did a fine job of floor
working and guarding. Ed Po!-
ter, star guard, missed the game
due to a mild case of “Flu”.

independent laboratory tests of the smoke itself
P'OR many a year your taste and your tongue
A told you there was something distinaive about
^els...something you just couldn’t seem to
find in any other cigarette.
Then scientific research told you Camels were
slower-burning. You learned that this slower way
of burning meant more mildness, more coolness
and more flavor in the smoke.
NW, new tests-impartial laboratory tests of
the smoke ttself-coabira still another advantage
“SMOKING OUT” THE FACTS about nicotine. Experts, chemist,
5 of the largest-selling brands... find Uiat the
smoke of slower-burmng Camels contains 28% less nicotine than
the average of die other brands tested-less than any of them!
of Camel’s slower burning; Less nicotine in the
smoke. Less than any of the four other largest-
