For seven innings Jack Andrews

only five his and a lone ally. The run
came in the very first inning as

by the ace right hander for a long
homer over the left field fence.
The Fighting Christians assumed
the lead in the third inning scoring
three big runs as Hank DeSimone led
off with a double, York singled, Lou
Savini singled after Steve Walker,
and Ed Ellis drew free tickets. Elon
added its final tally in the seventh
as Worth Womble, batting for An

sacrificed him to second and Walker
shot a long double to right center
field.
The Bees tallied twice in the eighth
as Cox walked and Swiggett pasted |
his fourth hit of the day, a long
double, down the right field line ^
pnd another single by Rainwater. |
Bates’ club tied the count in the last i
of the ninth on a pair of walks, a j

Elon Bows to
McCrary in 10th
Specators at Elon Stadium Tues
day, April 6, were treated to ten in
nings of tight pitching as Elon fi
nally bowed to the strong McCrary
E’agles by a 3-2 score. The Eagles
punched out 8 hits to Elon’s six, and
that in itself was the difference, as
two of those hits came in the tenth
frame off C. K. Siler and added up
to the W'inning canto.
Behind Art Fowler, Elon took the
lead with two runs in the fourth in
ning, but McCrary tied it in the sev
enth with two counters of their own.
Stevie “Staming” Walker was the
leading threat for the Christians
getting on base five times and turning
in a fine same afield in addition.
Both 'Fowler and Siler pitched
well, but the McCrarv team, which
included Matty Tomokins. formerly
of Carolina and the Greensboro Pat
riots, was a little too tough a nut to
crack.

Frank Roberts collected his third
win in as many appearances Monday
April 5, as the Fighting Christians
defeated Eastern Carolina 6-4 for an
even split in their first two confer
ence tilts.
The robust righthander was coast
ing along on a four-hit shut out until
the sixth, when he was nicked for a
lone tally on a single and a long
double. Then in the next inning,
the Pirates blasted for four bingles
including McCotter’s base alearing
triple as the home team pulled up to
a 4-4 tie.
Our visiting Fighting Christians
lost no time in scoring as Dick York
led off with a single, Steve Walker
