The referees take quite a verbal
beating during the year, so I
-bought that this poem, donated
by Husky Hall, would be quite ap
propriate:
REFEREES
I think that I shall never see
\ satisfactory referee.

lowed only five hits each, ’ ‘he play.
Carroll Reid, speedy Christian
outfielder, staged a great batting |
spree in the late-season games to
grab the batting leadership for the
Maroon and Gold baseball squa
for the 1952 season, which came to
an end with the tournament loss to
Lenoir Rhyne in Hickory.
Reid banged out 12 hits in hi;
22 final trips to the plate to fin
ish the year with a lofty .349 per
centage. figured on 30 hits in 86
attempts.
The Christian squad, with
piayers seeing action, hammered
265 hits in 986 trips for a .269
average, averaging about eight
hits per game than the opponents
whose combined mark showed 224
hits in 974 attempts for a .230
average.
Jimmy Dalton, freshman second
sacker. led the Christians in the
important runs-batted-in column.
Dalton sent 31 runners scamper
ing home during the season. Dal
ton also topped the squad in two
baggers for the year, with 10
doubles.
Carroll Reid was far in front in
stolen bases. The speedy outfield
er pilfered 22 bases, ten more
than his nearest rival. Leaders
in other divisions were Bobby
Stewart with four triples, Jack
Musten with four homers, and
Billy Rakes with three sacrifice
hits.
Seven pitchers divided mound
duties during the year, with Sher
rill Hall winning 5 and losing 1,
Carlton Roberts and Richard
Smith each winning 2 and losing

losing 5, Charlie Swicegood win
