It was the second time this season that the Panthers had nosed the Christians by a single run. The High Point outfit plated a single run on a wild pitch in the third, but Danny Hall hammered a solo homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the same inning to tie the count, and Elon went on to score single runs in both the fourth and fifth racks to grab a 3 to 1 edge. Elon Pounds Quaher Nine The Elon Christians used timely 'I'tting behind bases on halls to par ley seven safeties into ten runs and urned back the Guilford Quakers 10 to 3 in a Carolinas Conference liamond battle here on Wednesday, May 1st. Four ba.ses on balls and a brace of .singles by Gary Taylor and Art Davis sent five Elon runners scamp ering home in the .second inning of he Quaker contest, and that was enough to assure the victory for Elon s Jerry Drake, who went the full route on the mound for the Christians. The Christians o|)ened the tourna ment play with a hard-hitting 11 to 2 victory over the Catawba Indians on Thursday afternoon. May 9th, but they were victims of a rampaging crew of I*feiffcr Falcons in a sec ond-round game on Friday, May 10th. Then, playing in a semi-final battle, the Elon nine dropiH?d a lop sided 14 to 6 decision to the tawba Indians on Saturday after noon. May 11th. KI^N 11, CATAWBA 2 The Elon nine used potent bats and a fine mound job by I>efty Everett to whip the Catawba nine 11 to 2 in the first round action in the tournament, with Christian batters pounding three Indian hurl- ers for a total of seventeen hits during the fray. Every Elon batter hit safely at least once, and six of them had two hits, with Pete Oook leading the assault with three safe ties in five trips. Lefty Everett, Elon’s big sopho more mound star, worked a master ful game on the hillock for the Christians. He allowed two hits in the second and fourth, with Ca tawba gelling one run each time, but he silenced the Indian hats the rest of the way, fanning seven while walking two, allowing six hits.
