The first Elon chance came when Lloyd Kanipe blocked a Quaker boot, and Mackie Carden recovered on the Guilford thirteen, but the threat ended when Elon missed a field goal from the seven. The invading Blue Stockings hold a 5 to 2 edge over the Christians in a series of clashes that began back in 1956, when the Stockings eked a thrilling 20 to 14 victory in Clover, S. C. The following year saw Elon’s undefeated team of 1957 roll for 37 to 7 victory over the South Carolinians, the PC combo avenged that loss dur ing the next two years. The seasons of 1958 and 1959 saw the Presbyterians squad roll for de cisive triumphs, winnig by a 34 to 6 victory in the 1958 encounter and pounding out a 27 to 6 win in the 1960 battle. The Elon squad turned in one of its finest games of the games of the 1961 season and one of its best of the Presbyterian series in upsetting the Blue Hose 22 to 16 in the final game of that season. There was no game in 1963 and 1964, but the Blue Stockings won last year’s encounter by a 14 to 7 margin. The game tomorrow night will find Elon paying tribute to the high school seniors of Alamance County and Burlington in a “Salute to Seniors” night, with all the seniors in the city and county attending as guests of the college. GOLF PLAY OPEN FOR ELON GROUP Newcomers to the Elon student body and faculty who like golf may be interested in the excellent chance for them to enjoy their recreational hobby and within easy reach of the Elon campus. There are numerous golf courses in the area, but there are two public golf clubs within about seven miles of the campus on which Elon faculty and students may enjoy their favorite sport. The Shillelagh Golf Club, reached by Highway 61 south from Interstate 85, offers a 9-hole course (back nine under construction) with fees of $1 for nine holes and $1.50 for eighteen holes on weekdays and $1.25 for nine and $2 for eighteen on weekends. The Shamrock Golf Club, on High way 49 south off Interstate 85, offers an 18-hole course, with green fees of $1.50 for week-day play and $2.50 fees for weekends. Beale Setting New Passing Marks In spite of the fact that the Christi ans lost a lopsided 35 to 13 decision to the Guilford Quakers on Saturday night, September 24th, there were no less than three all-time Elon individual records broken and one team record smashed, with a third individual mark tied, all of the records involved being all-time Christian offensive marks. Burgin Beale, the big sophomore quarterback set three new individual offensive records, including new marks for the most passes thrown, most passes completed and most individual offensive plays in a single game. Pete Jarvis, pass-grabbing senior end, tied an all-time record for catches in a single game; and the Elon team as a Burgin Beale, sophomore quarterback from Danville, Va., has already set three new all-time Elon records this year and will be gunning for more as the season progresses. He set one new season mark for percentage com pletions last fall. whole set a new record for most passes attempted. Beale threw 37 passes to break the old mark set by Ed Wheless against Frederick in 1964, and the big Dan ville slinger also set a new mark for most completions when he completed 19 passes to break the old mark of 18 completions by Lou Roshelli against East Carolina in 1951. The Christian quarterback also carried the ball on 13 rushes to run his total offensive plays to 50, far ahead of the old record of 38 set by Ed Wheless against Frederick in 1964 and by Lou Roshelli against Catawba in 1950 and against East Carolina in 1951. Pete Jarvis, the lanky senior end from Burlington, tied another of Elon’s oldest marks when he caught 9 of Beale’s tosses against Guilford, tying the old record set by Len Green wood against East Carolina in 1951. The Elon team record broken was for the total passes thrown, with the 37 throws against Guilford topping the old mark of 36 passes thrown against Frederick in 1964. The three new Elon records set by Burgin Beale in the battle with Guil ford are not the first all-time Christian marks credited to the big soph field general from Danville, for Beale also grabbed off an all-time seasonal record last fall when he completed a total of 49 of 86 passes for a mark of 51 per cent. This broke the old percentage record of 50.4 per cent set by Charlie Maidon back in 1958 when he com pleted 63 of 125 tosses.
