The Spring Weekend festivities, which promise three gala days for Elon students, have taken the place, in recent years, of the traditional M,iy Day festivities, which were started on the Elon campus more than forty years ago. This 1968 Spring Weekend, which comes right on the heels of the annual Liberal Arts For um cultural program, which has been in pro gress on the college campus throughout the past week, will bring a series of events, which promise entertainment rather than culture, all of which promises more of the lighter type of en joyment on the part of the Elon students. Assiting Barbara Hudson as overall chair man for the annua] Spring Weekend activities will be Neil Henning, of Rich mond, Va., who is ser ving this spring as chair man of the committee on entertainment. After the annual talen: show and beauty pageant to be held in Whitley Au ditorium tonight, the Spring Weekend will fea ture dances and entertain ment show tha: may de finitely be classified on the “light side” after the series of lectures that were offered by the Liberal Arts Forum dur ing the past few days. Tonight’s student talent show will offer a varied selection of acts, and the beauty show will offer to the Elon girl who is crowned as queen the right to rule over the en tire Spring Weekend pro gram , After the Whitley talent show tonight, there will be a dance in McEwen from 9 until 11 o’clock, featuring ‘'The Electric Renais sance” and psychodelic light show. Another dance on Satur day night will feature “The Jesters” and a con cert on Sunday afternoon will feature Billy Stewart and Carla Thomas in a program that should evoke great student en thusiasm. The Oaks (Continued From Page 2) $1.10. The moderately priced meal (chicken and dumplings, etc.) cost 850. The food was found to be excellent and well ser ved. Many of the portions were found to be larger than those we receive, here. The Wake Forest prices were in process of being raised, but no estimates of new prices were given. Elon Netters The Elon College ten nis team, which holds a mark of two wins and three losses after its first five meets, is still fight ing for a winning record for the season as the Christian racket men con tinue to show good form j'n many of their indivi dual matches. The first three matches following sprng holidays, the Christians turned back Guilford 6 to 2 and dropped decisions to At lantic Christian 6 to 1 and to Pfeiffer 4 1-2 to 2 1-2. The netters had previously defeated Greensboro College and lost Atlantic Christian at Wilson. Two Elon Track Records Set Three new Elon College all-time track records have been set and an other has been tied in the early dual meets of Fighting Christian.s, who are operating this spring under the direction of Coach Jerry Tolley. Ralph Moore, who has been a potent factor for the Christians in the weight events this spring, smashed the all-time Elon discus throw in the opening meet and has bet tered the old mark twice since that time. He now holds the all-time Elon mark for the discus with a record of 142 feet 81-2 inches, set in the Appa lachian dual meet. Ronald Bolton, broke an all-time Elon mark in the pole vault when he leap ed 12 feet gainst Camp bell in the first meet of the 1968 season. He has since topped that mark with a leap of 13 feet in the Davidson Relays, but he did not win in that meet, so his Elon record still stands at 12 feet- Larry Raines leaped out to a mark of 42 feet 2 inches in the triple jump in the Appalachian Meei, tying the old P>lon marK which was set by Oliphant in the Guilfo/Q Meet held 'ast spring,Da vid Crews has been con stantly threatening the old Elon marks which set for Elon by Bi'idges back in 1956 for both the hund-'3d and ' wo- twenty dashes.
