The first published picture of the architectural plans for the new and modern
Lion College physical education center, which is soon to rise on the college s
new North campus beyond the present Alumni Memorial Gymnasium. The new
structure will differ in design and plan from the present Alumni Gym, which
was built in the first place as primarily a home for the Elon College basket
ball team. The new physical education center will be geared to a greater extent
toward the college’s physical education needs. It will furnish a full-size gym
nasium, but it will also provide ample classroom space for the physical edu
cation classes, along with a training room and facilities for handball, wrestling
and other activities , in addition to basketball. It will also provide a standard-
size indoor swimming pool.

right on the heels of the
annual Liberal Arts For

which has been in pro
gress on the college
campus throughout the
past week, will bring a
series of events, which
promise entertainment
rather than culture, all
of which promises more
of the lighter type of en

Elon students.

Weekend activities will
be Neil Henning, of Rich

The Oaks
(Continued From Page 2)
$1.10. The moderately
priced meal (chicken and
dumplings, etc.) cost 850.
The food was found to
be excellent and well ser
ved. Many of the portions
were found to be larger
than those we receive,
here. The Wake Forest
prices were in process
of being raised, but no
estimates of new prices
were given.
Elon Netters
The Elon College ten
nis team, which holds a
mark of two wins and
three losses after its first
five meets, is still fight

for the season as the
Christian racket men con
tinue to show good form
j'n many of their indivi
dual matches.
The first three matches
following sprng holidays,
the Christians turned
back Guilford 6 to 2 and
dropped decisions to At
lantic Christian 6 to 1
and to Pfeiffer 4 1-2 to

previously defeated
Greensboro College and

Two Elon Track
Records Set
Three new Elon College
all-time track records
have been set and an
other has been tied in the
early dual meets of
Fighting Christian.s, who
are operating this spring
under the direction of
Coach Jerry Tolley.
Ralph Moore, who has
been a potent factor for
the Christians in the
weight events this spring,
smashed the all-time
Elon discus throw in the
opening meet and has bet
tered the old mark twice
since that time. He now
holds the all-time Elon
mark for the discus with
a record of 142 feet 81-2
inches, set in the Appa
lachian dual meet.
Ronald Bolton, broke an
all-time Elon mark in the
pole vault when he leap

bell in the first meet of
the 1968 season. He has
since topped that mark
with a leap of 13 feet in
the Davidson Relays, but
he did not win in that
meet, so his Elon record
still stands at 12 feet-
Larry Raines leaped
out to a mark of 42 feet
2 inches in the triple jump
in the Appalachian Meei,
tying the old P>lon marK
which was set by
Oliphant in the Guilfo/Q
Meet held 'ast spring,Da
