Christian ‘5’ Wins First Home Game The Fighting Christian cagers put four men in double figures as they won their first home game of the new 1968-69 cage campaign, turning back the Wofford Terriers 79 to 63 in a battle in Alum ni Memorial Gymnasium here on Wednesday night, December 4th. The invading Terriers made a close battle of it for the first half, with the score tied three times and the lead chang ing hands eleven times during that portion of the game, with the Christians pulling ahead in the final moments to hold a scant 38-36 margin at half- time. The Christians came back strong after the in termission, with Bill Bowes, Richard McGeor- ge and Tommy Cole pac ing a rapid-fire attack which pulled the blon quintet ahead by eleven at 51-40 after barely four minutes of the second half, and the Christians maintained a comfortable margin throughout the re mainder of the game. (Continued on Page 4) McGeorge Named Outstanding In Carolinas Conference In ’68 Richard McGeorge, Elon’s great pass-catch ing end, was named as the outstanding lineman in the Carolinas Conference for BURGIN BEALE the 1968 season and hon ored for the selection at the annual meeting of the Conference, which was held in High Point on Mon day, December 2nd. Dan Eckstein, of Pres byterian College, who went both ways on both offense and defense in the Blue Stocking back- field and who played a big role in the Blue Hose tying Lenoir Rhyne for the Conference title this year, was chosen as the outstanding back of the year in the loop. The Conference honor for McGeorge marked the first time that an Elon gridder has been given the Outstanding” award in the Conference in seve ral years, and it came as one of several post-sea son tributes paid to the big Christian pass grab ber, who has within three seasons completely re written the Elon pass- catching marks. He still has another year of play ahead of him. The hefty flanker from Roanoke, Va., who stands 6-5 and weighs 220 pounds, has been ranked by professional football scouts as one of the finest pro grid prospects in the South. He was named to the All-State squad for North Carolina for the second straight year and won All-Conference hon ors for a third consecu tive season.
