NEW VERSION OF
‘FREE-FOR-ALL’
Last Week’s Game
Christians Fs. Quakers
By Dwight Mize
Reprinted from the Oct. 3
issue of The Appalachian,
Appalachian State Uni
versity.
It finally happened in
America. It even happen
ed in North Carolina.
The Quakers and Chris
tians lived peaceably to
gether ever since this
great land was created
but the “meltingpot” fin
ally boiled over.
Where did it happen?
It happened at Elon,
North Carolina.
When did it happen?
It happened Saturday
night, September 27.
What happened?
Several hundred fans,
players, and others were
involved in a clash at the
Elon-Guilford game last
Saturday night. It took
several law-enforcement
agents over twenty min
utes to clear the field of
the spectators and play
ers.
How did it happen?
Reporters state that the
free-for-all started over
an incident at the Guil
ford bench. Elon’s
Richard McGeorge went
after a pass at the side
lines at the Guilford bench
and reportedly was hit
UNINTENTIONALLY af
ter the play had ended.
The All-American end
who is one of the great
est ends in the entire
nation unintentionally (of
course) pushed Guilford
Coach Bob Lord. That
was all it took as the
Guilford bench emptied
at an attempt to get to
McGeorge. Elon’s bench
then emptied and ran to
the other side of the field
to get in a few punches
of their own.
As Elon’s bench emp
tied they were followed
by a herd of Elon fans.
Guilford fans, not to be
outdone, lit out for the
field. Somehow, the police
got in the midst and broke
up the action. Heard In
the crowd were screams
of "police brutality.”
After the tempers were
cooled somewhat, a check
under the Guilford stands
delivered a surprise. Ly
ing peaceably, i.e. cold as
a cucumber, was offen
sive-back Joe Rinaca (he
was just taking a nap,
said Guilford fans, be
cause he was tired).
Appalachian plays at
Elon this Saturday night
(Oct. 4). Each Mountain
eer fan planning on taking
the trip should take along
helmets, say certain foot
ball enthusiasts.

When You Are Tired of Sitting
Just Fidget, Say the Experts
The next time you are uncomfortable in a theater, stadium
or auditorium seat—fidget.
That’s the advice of seating experts at American Seating
Company, Grand Rapids, Mich.
Researchers have found that holding the body virtually
motionless tenses and strains the body muscles, restricts cir
culation, and promotes discomfort and fatigue.
Fidgeting and squirming relaxes those muscles and distrib
utes the strain of supporting the body over a wider area, allow
ing blood to circulate again through constricted vessels. Even
only slight shifts of arm, leg or torso can restore comfort
almost immediately.
What Is an Average Man?
The average man is 69.1 inches tall and 161.9 pounds in
weight.
In World War I the average adult male stood 67.7 inches tall
and weighed 142 pounds. During World War II he was 68.4
inches tall and weighed 155 pounds. Recent studies, according
to the American Seating Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan,
have shown that on the average .sons arc 1.3 inches taller and as
much as 10 pounds heavier than their fathers at the same age
