1975 Fighting Christian
gridders post 5-6 slate
by Gary Spitler
The Elon College Fighting
Christian football team ended the
1975 season on a winning note as
they defeated Carson-Newman
in Jefferson City. Tenn. The
gridders jumped out to a 7-0 lead
and finally won the contest by a
13-3 margin.
The gridders piled up 310 yards
and added another 62 in the air.
Howard Ferguson, runningback,
passed the l(X)0-yard mark while
rushing 130 yards in 21 carries.
He also scored Elon's first TD
from two yards out to climax a
79-yard drive. That drive took
eleven plays. The second score
was tacked on the boards in the
fourth period going 58 yards in 12
plays. It was set up by a .39-yard
run by Howard Ferguson in a
fake punt situation. Ernie Woods
plunged in for the TD. The
second PAT failed totaling the
thirteen points which the
Christians collected. Prince
Deese carried the ball 19 times
and collected 102 yards.
Next year should provide to be
an exciting season with several
good players returning. The
Christians ended to season
posting a 5-6 record overall.
Until next season—that's
football.
