Page Eight T he Pendulum February 26.1976 1976 baseball season to open at home March 2 Students snow ski during winter temi Fifty-six students survived the mogulmice and snow snakes that frustrates everyone in the sport of snow skiing during the winter term. The course was completed at the French Swiss Ski School in Blowing Rock, N.C. Fifteen students sf>ent the entire mini-term skiing at the FSSS and at the Sugar and Beach Ski resorts. Elon students completing this course have been invited back as instructors. John Cray, an Elon student, who took the course last year, served as instructor this year and has been asked back for next season. These same opportunities are open to Elon students who wish to teach with the ski college. In January of '73, the P.E. department of Elon toured the ski areas of Austria. The group skiied on the Litsum, the same area as the 12ih Olympic games were held. These trips, like the 12th Olympic games, have passed into history. One of the problems confronting the Elon students was that the price for weekend skiing was much higher and really out of reach for college students. Students should get some type of break, in that they are paying for an education and the ski areas management should realize this and give reduced rates, the Elon group thinks. By Gary Spitler The 1976 edition of the Elon baseball team should prove to be balanced and should have a good season. With players returning like All-American candidate Doug Williams, catcher Charlie Camble. shortstop Fil Bondurant, third baseman Mike Harden and pitcher Ronnie Johnson the team will have past experience and consequently end in a winning mark. Some incoming standouts to look for will include pitchers Bob Hudson and Lou Williams, catcher Frank Williams, outfielder Cene Drumwright plus Larry Colson, Charlie Lindsey, Ed Adams, Phil Baskerville and Billy Womble. In addition to some new plavers, the Christians will be coached this season b\ Bobby Jones. Coach Jones attended Elon with the Class of 1954 before signing with the Boston Red Sox. He takes over the helm from last year's coach .Miller and graduating senior Mike Osborne. After he played at Elon during the '51 and '52 season, Jones signed with the Boston Red Sox before a twt)-vear stint in the .Armv' where he was named to the Western European . All-Star team as a catcher. The 1975 team had an all-American named to the post season honors. Scott Gorman, w ho graduated last May, was one of two collegiate pitchers named t.o the first team of the CoS I DA •Academic All-American team last spring. Scott had a 5-2 record for the Christian batmen with a 1.10 ERA. He is only the second Elon student-athlete to be named to such a team.
