Page Four The Pendulum March 25,1976 pring S ports by Gmry Spider, Sports Editor Elon College Sluggers ready for spring trip Greater Elon Golf Tourney to be sponsored by SAM April 20 by Gftry Spitler The Society for the Advanoetnent at Management, better known as SAM. will aponsof the 1976 Greater Eloti Open Golf Tournament on April 20 at Shilielagfa Golf Course. There is a $4.00 entry fee for the ooe-day event. Trophies will be awarded to the top man in the low gross and handicap divisions. This contest is open to faculty, staff, students, and the administratKMi. The 1976 golf team members may not participate It is easj- to register for the event. All you have to do is go to the Student Activities BCS wins 1976 crown by Gary Spitier The Black Cultural Society claimed the 1976 Intramural crown m a playoff game against the Smith Smokers. BCS put out the Smokers flame »ith a 62-57 victory. A fantastic performance by Mike Hahn capped the »in when he entered the game and pulled his team from behind to post the victory. Phil Baskervilie s 17 potnts npped . through the nets while Roxie Braxton chipped in 13. The other team members: Dave Graham. Chuck i.jndsay. Phil Hutenson, Vic Steed, all contributed to the championship win behind the leadership oi pla>'er-coach Gene Drumnght. The four-comer spread offense, resembling that of the nationally-ranked Carolina Tarheels, iced the 62-5* decision. APO to Putt-Putt b>‘ Oa\id Nichols Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity is sponsoring a Putt-Pun tournament on .-Vpnl 22, for all mterested students, faculty, and administration. Elon won over Pembroke State in the first game. 6-1. and won the .second game. 4 to 3. Atlantic Christian downed Elon 3 to 2 in the first game and Elon battled in the late innings to win the second game 3 to 2. The Christian sluggers stan their trip during the spring break. The batmen will meet Louisburg College. Norfolk ' State. Virginia Wesleyan, and Campbell. The Christians meet Norfolk State and Liberty Baptist after classes start again. Sign up today in Rxwm 203 Student Center for the April 20 tournament. by Joe Chandler The Elon College golf team began its 1976 season on a high note by defeating High Point and Pfeiffer in a three-way match at Pfeiffer on March 5. Elon compiled a team score of 303. High Point totaled a 317 score and Pfeiffer tallied a score of 336. Elon was led by Bill Burton with a two under par 71 and David Braxton with an even par 73. An 80-minute rugby match requires quite a bit of exertion on the pan of the players. This effon is rewarded when, after the game, the players gather together to give three cheers for the opposition, sing some rather bawdy songs, and drink an ale, or two, or three. For those interested in playing, the club nearest Eton College might be the Greensboro Rugby Club. Elon College may soon be able to field a rugby club of its owti. Like some other things, however, it may be long in coming. Elon has some ex-footballers who have made the switch from football to rugby rather well. One does not have to be a former jock to play the game though. The Greensboro Club ranges from the Pinehurst tourney with team total of 1164, The! linksters defeated such teams' as East Carolina, Duke* Un i versity. of Virginia ' University of South Carolina.'
