If so, the Elon College Homes for Children and the Burlington Indians Baseball Club will be sponsoring the first annual Home Run Festival, Saturday Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the home. This event will feature 5 and 10 K runs as well as a one mile fun run. The runs begin at 9 a.m., but other activities are taking place throughout the day. An arts and crafts fair will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., which will feature handcrafted jewelry and painted T- shirts from local craftsmen. A baseball card show will also take place during this time. An auction, featuring all kinds of new items from local merchants takes place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A special treat for baseball fans of all ages, Elon alumnus Greg Harris, a pitcher for the San Diego Padres and Greg Booker, a former pitcher for the Padres will be available to sign autographs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Why did the Burlington Indians decide to join up with the home for this event? Mark Schuster, the general manager for the team says they have often been involved in helping out the community. This event is no different Schuster says, "We want to get into the community during the off season. It's an event we want to do year after year and hopefully, in a few years, people from all over the state will be able to attend." Tracy Hart, an employee at the home feels that the Indians' contribution to the event is necessary. "Burlington Indians have been a big help. They've always been a part of doing things for the Elon Homes for Children." Entry fees for the events are $8 if received before Oct 10 and $10 afterwards. Ann Cook of the Elon Homes for Children says that proceeds from this event will benefit the residential care programs at the home. Registration sheets may be found in the Alamance Building. For more information concerning sign-up, contact the Elon Homes for Children at 584-9001. Cook says that volunteers are also needed to help set up and to help with children's games. For more information call John Kirk at 584-0091. In case of rain, the event will be held Oct. 20, noon to 5 p.m. TAKE any purchase of $25 or more Save even more off our everyday lo\^ factory outlet prices on tyand nart)e hosiery, llngene. ladles' apparel, women's sizes, menswear, t)andlxjgs, accessories, and shoes.
