Students make big plans for spring break Emily Hilton Reporter It is never too early to stiut thinking about where you want to go and what you want to do for spring break. Spring fever has already hit students at Elon, and they are highly anticipat ing and preparing for this long-awaited break. Elon students will be heading all across the nation, some all across the world, to find their perfect spring break retreat. The options for spring break are endless, even if your budget is not. All you need to have for a successful trip are friends and creativity. Freshman Cara Loose is going to rent a cabin on a lake near her hometown with 13 of her friends from high school. “I searched for forever on the Internet to find a place where someone would actually let college kids stay, and now we're all just put ting our money together and deciding who is going to bring what,” Loose said. Junior Mary Allen Mann is planning a week- long uip to the beach with her closest friends. “Me and six of my friends are driving down to Jacksonville, Fla. to stay in a condo for the whole break. It’s going to be a nice break from school, I can’t wait,” Mann said. With the increasing number of people at the gym and at the tanning beds recently, it is obvious that many students will be heading south of the border for a dose of relaxation. SayaTomita, an intemauonal student from Japan, said, “I am going to Honduras with my roommate, who is from Honduras, and I am preparing by trying to get back into my bikini, but it’s not working out too well with the long lines at the gym!” Many other popular sunny destinations this year are: Florida, Hilton Head, S.C., the Caribbean, and Cancun, Mexico. Others are taking this break as a chance to see the sights and shop in some of the nation’s big cities. “I am saving up my money to go sight-see ing and shopping in D.C. and New York City with my friends from my hall,” said freshman Sara Rixey. Some students are choosing to give back to the community during the break. This year Elon Volunteers! is offering a spring break service trip in Atlanta to work with Hands on Atlanta. “Throughout the week, we will be woiicing with many different agencies including proj ects that deal with nature, elderly, youth, homelessness, etc,” said Elon Volunteers! par ticipant Jeanette Drake. Although many already have something planned for every day of their break, it is not to late to organize a vacation. Last minute online deals are an easy way to quickly put together a trip.
