MAY 1946 F. S. T. C. VOICE — MAY 1946 Page Seven Sports Album Class Of ’4(i Descending upon the college campus in September of 1!)42, the ('.lass of ’4(i presented an ar ray of athletes and set a pre cedent in sports which has not been excelled. Freshmen that year made up approximately four fifths of the college athletic teams. .\niong the stellar standouts on the grid-ron were (ierald Minga, •lessie l^oberts, John “Spot” Har ris, ,loe Harris, Waverly McNeil, (Miai'les Wiggs, .lames Debnam, William .lohnson and .lames Bat tle. .lohnson and Battle have re cently returned to the ("ollege. 'i'he varsity basketball team, loo, was made up largely of freshmen. .lessie Roberts, ('diaries Wiggs, William Johnson, Gerald Minga, .lames l^attle, Jone Deb nam, Joe Harris and Alfonzaz Parks helped the Brochos to "buck and kick” their opponents into submission. As freshmen, l>eander Isler and Thelma Hun ter served as cheer leaders and heli)ed to give the l5ronchos add ed punch for disposing of their rixals. The whole cani]jus was made sad when the Enlisted Heserve C,orps called to activeduty young men from our campus. Those whose names appeared on its roster were Waverly McNeil, Jes sie l^oberts. (Ierald Minga and William Johnson. Prior to that time, .lames Battle, John “Spot” Harris and CJiarles Wiggs had answered L’ncle Sam’s call. Thus the ranks of an energetic fcrward-looking class in Sej)- tember had been broken long be fore the end of the > ear. Joe Har ris and Jone Debnam remained to carry the brunt of the attack for the 1043 basketball season. Inter-(x)llegiate football having been suspended, interest more and more was centered in activ ity on the court. In 11)43 Sophomore women won the softball tournament and fig ured i)rominently in the intram ural tennis matches. Dejjletion of the I’anks was still in process in September of li)44. The array of talented athletes that began in the fall of )!)42 was soon in the armed services. India Martin was our lone reijresentative on the Women’s basketball team. 'I'hel- ma Hunter kept her appoint ment with “(ii)id” and didn't re turn to school. 'I'hen came the year toward which all college students look with so much anticipation—the Senior Year. 'I'he depleted athletic ability of the class was given a boast with the return of an array of vet erans of 'World AVar II, who for merly wore the white and blue. 'J'hese veterans were Joseph Par- Last Will And Testament We, the Glass of ’4(>, of Fayette ville State Teachers G.ollege in the cit\- of Fayetteville, in the State of North G.arolina, being sound of mind and body (thanks to Miss Mattie GJiavis) do hereby make, iJublish, and declare this document to be our last will and testament, herei)y revoking any will, or wills heretofore made by us.
