Newbold P. T. A.
Groups
The Newbold Laboratory School
P. T. A. holds its meetings on the
second Monday evening of each
month. The organization is divid
ed into groups, seven in all, ac
cording to the sections of town
from which the children come.
Group meetings are held twice a
month in the several communi
ties. The program committee of
the several organizations plans
the program of study for the year.
Along with this study, the groups
assist the school in many ways.
Last year the Newbold P. T. A.
gave the school a large flag of
North Carolina, a large flag of
the United States, 12 dozen glasses
for the cafeteria, 100 spoons, 100
forks, a large dish truck, and a
bicycle rack. The Association also
had the entire cafetria screened
and the tables painted. Certain
groups bought albums of records
for music appreciation; an other
groups bought twenty-five dol
lars ($25.00) worth of community
song books for use at the assembly
periods.
Each year the P. T. A. sponsors
a Hallowe’en carnival and this
school year will be no exception
to the rule. Already a group has
painted the teacher’s rest room and
equipped it with curtains, drap-
peries, scarfs and the like. Each
year the Association gives twenty-
five dollors ($25.00) for the up
keep of the Newbold Clinic room.

team has shown by presenting it
with a large, beautifully-dec-
orated basket of fruit, and a card
wishing the team success. Each
member of the cabinet signed the
card. Some slogans read, “We Are
All Behind You Boys, Fight”.
“You Can’t Be Licked, Fight,
Fight, Fight,” and “We Are All
Rooting for You.” Also, a Bible
study hour is being conducted each
week by Miss June McCowan,
Chairman of the Worship Com
mittee.
On Sunday evening October 23,
the Association held its annual
recognition services in Smith
auditorium. The decorations were
beautiful. With Miss Mollie Boone,
local president, presiding, the
program got under way with a
solo, “How Lovely Are Thy
Dwellings” by Miss Mary E. Terry
of the Music Department. The
guest speaker was Mrs. Mildred
W. Newton, Director of the Y. W.
C. A. Service Center, Fayetteville,
North Carolina, who took the po
sition that “the Young Women’s
Christian Association represents
a way of' life.” With the candle-
lighting ceremonies 75 new mem

“One mark of an educated man,”
some one has said, “is the ability to
do cheerfully and gracefully all
day long what one had much
rather not do.”

“Y” Conference at Berea College
at Berea, Kentucky last June was
