PAGE SIX THE VOICE QoUnmf. Sg4^ • « • Hello, everybody. Let’s see what’s cooking on the sports front. It seems as though old man “tough luck” has hit “our boys” in their effort on the hardwood. Come on Broncoes, shake off that jinks. We are hungry for another victory. Win or lose, the Broncoes have played a full schedule of games at home and abroad. . . States “Y” team blasted the local Cape Fear Tigers 51-22 with Murray,. Hannon, and Coburn scoring 10, 9, and 8 markers re spectively. Congratulations, Coach Jimmy Burch, for the way you are handling those basketeers. Coach James Battle and his ag gregation of “veterans” recently lost a thrilling 44-40 contest to E. E. Smith. When we go to a basketball game, we usually leave our books in the dormitory, but from the siuall amourn of cheeiiiig we do, one might conclude that it is study hour or that we are attending a funeral. Come on student body, and let’s make a lot of noise at the next game. Just a reminder. . . I don’t think we shall soon forget that “spectacular set- shot” made by “Bobby” Simmons that sent the Broncos into the first of two overtime periods with Winston-Salem. Ten years from now you can tell your children about that one. . . Four of our players, Howard McAllister, Randolph Worsley, Robert Simmons and William Harrison will graduate from the department of “cageology” as well as from the college this year. Here’s wishing each of them much luck in the future. Around the campus they have been known to “click” on the hardwood. . . Spring is in the air and the boys have already begun to toss them “in there”. Last year the Broncos won seven of its sche duled eight baseball games. This year they hope for a still better season. Coach “Gus” Gaines has said that the Broncos would “pro bably” play Benedict, Shaw, Allen, North Carolina State, Johnson C. Smith, Maryland State, the Barons of Fort Bragg, Pope Field, South Carolina State and Winston- Salem. . . The Fayetteville State Col lege “Broncos” along with the other Negro college teams of the state have been invited to par ticipate in the State Basketball Tournament to be held at North Carolina College on March 3, 4, and 5. . . Fayetteville State Teachers College will sponsor a High School Basketball Tournament scheduled for March 10, 11, and 12. . . On March 24, 25, and 26, the winners of conference champion ships (E. L A. C., C. I. A. A., S. I. A. C. etc.) will play in a tournament in the armory at New . ochelle, New York. The tourna ment is sponsored by the Ameri can Legion. I guess this about concludes the happenings in sports for now, but ye ole professor will be peeping at ye again real soon. Bye now. Are You A Good Roommate? 1. Do you lose your temper easily? 2. HONORS IN FOOTBALL The idea of selecting a mythical All-America football team is American in origin. It goes back to 1889 when Grantland Rice assisted by a staff of 440 paid helpers, chose the first All-America team. The idea has persisted. The 1948 season saw the ap pearance of six All-America football teams, and from the group Scholastic Magazine for January 5, 1949 chose what it called a “super-All-America team.” Negro colleges have fallen in line and today we have a Negro All-America selection, an All-C. I. A. A. selection, and son on through the list. On the 1948 All-E. I. A. C. first team appears the names of four Fayetteville Broncos. The names of three others were placed on the second team.
