P. Daniel Founders' Day Speaker Dr. R. P. Daniel, President ol Virginia State College was the principal speaker at the observ ance of Founders’ Day at the Sea- brook Auditorium, Fayetteville State Teachers College, Sunday, April 12. Dr. Daniel is one of the out standing educators of this country, and at one time was president oi Shaw University, Raleigh. He is i member of many important organi zations, one of which is the Inter national Development Advisorj Board. He is also chairman of tht Evaluation Team of the Technica. Assistance Program of Liberia represfenting the Foreign Opera tions Administration of the U. S Government. Eldridge. Poet’s Corner 'Do You Just Belong?' By Randolph Johnson Are you an active student? The kind that would be missed, or, are you contented Do you take an active part to help your college along? or, are you satisfied to be the kind that just belong? Do you go to meetings and mingle with the crowd? or, do you just stay in the dormi tory and grumble both long and loud? There’s a great program sched- dule That means success if done And it can be accomplished With the help of everyone. So go to meetings regularly And help with all your heart Don’t just be a student But take an active part. Think it over, students Are we right or are we wrong? Are we active students? or, do we just belong? Juanita Walker, junior at Fayetteville State Teachers College was selected Sigma Sweetheart by the local chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, for the school year 1958-59. Miss Walker is a graduate of the E. E. Smith High School, Fayetteville. Alumni Relations Office Wins Award At the 14th Annual Session of the National Alumni Association,, composed of fifty institutions, held on the campus of Fayetteville State Teachers College, the Alumni Re lations Office at the College won first place in office management and first place in materials and publication displays. Dr. Odell Uz- zell, a graduate of Fayetteville State Teachers College, who re turned to the college in September, after completing his work for the Ph.D. Degree in Sociology at Ohio Stale University, operates the Alumni Relations Office, winning an award. Dr. H. M. Eldridge, Chairman of the Science Department at the Col lege and Professor R. P. Robinson, Professor of Science, appeared on a panel, “Can Small Colleges Meet the Challenge of Space Age.” On a separate panel. Coach W. A. Bry ant, Director of Athletics, Fayette ville State Teachers College, ap peared. The topic: “The Place of the Alumni Association in the Pro motion of the Athletic Program in the College.” Dr. H. I. Fontellio- Nanton, Director of Public Rela tions discussed “The Utilization of News Media in Promoting the Growth of the College,” and also pirticipated in the Photography Clinic. Future Alumni Notes The Future Alumni Association met April 27, 1959, for the purpose of electing new officers for the school year 1959-1960. The offi cers are as follows: President, Randolph Johnson; Vice President, Velma Street; Sec retary, Mrs. Dorothy McNair; As sistant Secretary, Constance An derson; Treasurer, Locke Moore: Reporter, Margaret Canady; Stu dent Government Representative, Thelma Braswell.
