Dorothy Usher Class Reporter — Briefs of Epsilon Zeta By Major Boyd Alphas of Epsilon Zeta Chapter j of Fayetteville State Teachers Col lege kicked off in what one Bro ther calls “high gear.” During the first meeting the plans for the Fall quarter were laid on the table. During the introductory pro gram, 'Brother Eugene Hunter sat with other Greeks and declared to freshmen that Alpha’s place in the world could not be filled by an^ substitute. At the All-Greek social affair, it was said that the “Alpha Phi Al pha Fraternity was well repre sented by Brothers in attendance.” The remark.=^ and songs were stiff competition for other organiza tions. During the celebration of Edu cation for Citizenship Week, the chapter invited the Reverend Bro ther Franklin Wilson, pastor of the Bethany Presbyterian Church of Lumbcrton, to speak to the student body. This challenging and in spiring speaker helped the Alpha’s program 'to rate high among chapel programs. During the first quarter the Ep .^ilon Zeta Chapter selected Miss Hilda L. Davis,' Alpha Sweetheart of the Year at a regular campus dinner. Brother McDaniel, presid ing at the gathering, said that Miss Davis “displays Alpha’s ideas of a sweetheart — possessing outstand ing character, ebouesent beauty, exuberant friendliness, and high scholarship.” Miss Davis is a native of Kin ston, North Carolina, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo T. R. Davis. At the college, Hilda is a senior and a member of numer ous organization which include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Miss Davis will be crowned in the early spring at a special Alpha Sweet heart Program. The Brothers of Epsilon Zeta would like to extend a hand of welcome to our new brother, Cal vin McDonald. The Fraternity would like to congratulate him for in American Colleges and Universities. Brothers Eugene Hunter and Luther McKeithan played their last season of football with the Fayetteville Broncos. They were two of the outstanding players of this year’s team and with them the Broncos shared the glory in their victory over Johnson C. Smith at our annual Homecoming game. A New Day Ralph Waldo Emerson held no brief with those who cry over spilt milk. And though he had no notion of the turmoil to face those who would live in the 20th cen tury, his philosophy is particularly apt: “Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and ab surdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomor row is a nev/ day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yester days.” —M.
