April, 1960 THE VOICE Page Five THE FAMILY NEXT DOOR Martha L. Green The highest ideal of any woman is to be a loving mother and a devoted wife. However, oftimes we, as women, enter in to the bands of matrimony completely aware of its responsibilties. All things considered, we sometimes expect such a step to be the beginning of a lifetime of joyous wedded bliss; but the rude awak ening comes the day the sink stops up — the babies have the colic—the telephone doesn’t stop ringing—the roast burns and—but why go on-these are just the minor irritations that are normal in the life of a happily wedded wife. But you would not say this is the case of our family next door, the Bradleys. We would like to nominate them as our “Family of the Year”; the four, Phil, Ray, William and Pearl, are examples of the “happily married.” Mother and daddy devote hours not just playing with their children to keep them amused but Ray knows all baseball terms and golf terms and has been thought to play baseball and golf and other games according to the rules and regulations of the games so that he will be able to use this know ledge as an adult to enjoy athletic contests as a spectator or a par ticipant. This Family considers being pa rents a full-time occupation and responsibility, not just a by-pro duct of marriage. It may be that we cannot all measure up to these ideals but at least we can salute the Bradleys- may their tribe increase- GOING TO COLLEGE? INTERESTED IN . . .
