The Newest Thing In Kappa Alpha Psi
Delta XI News
The members of the Delta Xi
Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Soror
ity sincerely hope that each of you
has had a successful year here.
As this is our last news article for
this year, we should like to give
you a short sketch of our activities
for these last months of school.
We inducted fifteen young ladies
into the Pyramid Club, and we are
working very hard with them and
the older pledgees in preparing for
the fall line. We should like to say
to the many interested young
ladies, work harder so that you
may become a part of Greekland
also.
Our project, the masquerade
ball, was very successful. It ap
peared that each of you who at
tended had a wonderful time. Our
prizes for best identificable char
acters were given to Mr. Willie
Smith, a senior, and Mr. Hayves
Street, a freshman, who were
dressed as Julius Caesar and a
slave; and Miss Gloria Wilson, a
sophomore, who was dressed as
“Daisy Mae of Dogpatch.” We
contributed to Dr. Jones forty dol
lars for the Student Emergency
Loan Fund. Thank you for com
ing out. Your attendance played
an important part in our contri
bution.

Sigma News
Our annual Sweetheart occasion
has left behind many happy memo
ries. The occasion was well at
tended by students who witnessed
the crowning of Miss Hermine
Jones as Sigma Sweetheart of Pi
chapter for the year 1962-63. Miss
Jones received many beautiful
gifts from various merchants ol
the city of Fayetteville, but per
haps the most treasured gift was
the presentation of a beautiful blue
and white “Sigma Sweetheart”
sweater by the members of Pi
chapter. The music was sponsored
by the Bronn Glows. Members of
Pi chapter were clad in tuxedo
pants and white dinner jackets.
The program closed with dancing
by all.
Our congratulations to the nine
fellows making history as Kappa
Alpha Psi men. Sigma greets you
as you make the transition into
Greek land.

It’s a great pity that things
weren’t so arranged that an empty
head, like an empty stomach,
wouldn’t let its owner rest until
he put something in it.
The Epsilon Beta Chapter of
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is
proud of the enthusiastic welcome
we have received from the college
family. Having set out to accom
plish this rewarding feat on Feb
ruary 1, 1961, we had the fullfill-
ment of our dreams on April 14,
1962, when nine hopeful “K’s”
crossed the burning sands into
Greekland. These brothers are as
follows; John Smith, Paul Jack
son, Fred Ellis, Jesse Williams,
Willis McLeod, James Davis, Nor-
Spearman, an English psycholo
gist and a contemporary of Thorn
dike, advanced a two-factor theory
based on a general mental factor
which is designated as “g” and
specific factors designated as “s.”
Spearman’s “g” factor refep to a
person who is good in a wide va
riety of activities. His “s” factor
explains the special capacities a
person may have which are in ex
cess or above the general capa
city or general factor. For ex
ample a person may be very good
in one particular thing and very
poor in many ‘others. This is ac
counted for by specific factors.
However, when one is very good in
a wide variety of activities it is
correct to conclude that one has
a large “g” factor. Therfore, if
we take Spearman’s theory into
consideration and consider the
many achievements made by O-
mega Men in a wide variety of
activities, it would be safe to con
clude that many of the men of
Delta Gamma Chapter of Omega
Theta Sorority
wood Mozingo, Willie Sessoms, and
William Smith.
We are now in the process of
properly establishing our chapter
so that we may set up our pledge
club in the near future. During the
Easter Holidays two brothers rep
resented Epsilon Beta at the an
nual Provincial Meeting held this
year at Charleston, West Virginia.
Once again we want to express our
gratitude for your gracious accep
tance of KAPPA ALPHA PSI at
Fayetteville State Teachers Col
lege.
Psi Phi Fraternity possess large
“g” factors.
In view of the previous state
ment I believe it would be proper
to give some statistics which will
serve to support the statement.
However, I should like to be very
general in the presentation of
the statistics since I prefer not to
mention the names of specific in
dividuals.
The fact that Omega men pos
sess large “g” factors may be
demonstrated by examining the
scores made on the National Tea
chers Examination which was tak
en by the senior of F.S.T.C. The
highest score among the students
from F. S. T. C. was made by an
Omega, the third highest score
was made by an Omega, and there
were three Omega men who rank
ed in the top ten. These three
Omegas excel in such activities
as track, football, and government.
It should also be noted that all
three are better than average as
far as academic performance is
concerned.
As further evidence of Omega
men having large “g” factors.
Governor Sanford appointed three
Omega men to the State Student
Committee for a Better North Caro
lina in 1961. These same men are
outstanding in various other acti
vities on campus and are better
than average academically. Ome
ga men of Delta Gamma have also
excelled in Dramatics. They have
starred in such productions as:
“The Boy Friend,” “The Day’s
Mischief,” “Fumed Oak,” and
“Pygmalion.” Finally, Omega men
hold such offices as class presi
dents, judgeship, organization
presidents, and they also rank bet
ter than average academically. In
view of the many achievements of
the Omega men of Delta Gamma,
I feel that it would be less than
an exaggeration to say that the
psychologist, Spearman, might
have been thinking of men of high
achievement such as those of Delta
Gamma when he was in the pro
cess of formulating his two-factor
theory.

Smith Hall
Dormitory
This year is almost over, and
the members of Smith Hall Dor
mitory Association hope that you
have had as happy and successful
school year as we have had.
We are proud of the activities
that we executed this school year.
They provided us with fun and
information.
On December 16, 1961, we had
a wonderful Christmas party. Ev
eryone who participated, enjoyed
it. Gifts were exchanged, and
games were played.
Also, we were fortunate in se
curing people to speak to us on
various topics. Among those people
were Mrs. M. H. Scott, who talked
on etiquette; Mrs. A. C. Spicer,
who talked on dress; Mrs. E. A.
Young, who talked on health; and
Mrs. A. Rivera, who talked on
getting a job and keeping it. All
of these people shared with us
valuable information that will al
ways be of help to us.
At each dormitory meeting,
questions that have been placed in
the question box are asked and
answered. We have learned many
things through this method.
WE hope that you will have a
most enjoyable summer. To those
who are graduating, we wish you
luck in your many endeavors. To
the under classmen, we hope that
you will return next school term
with the determination to do your
very best.

Baptist Student
Union
This has been a year of success
for the Baptist Student Union. We
had approximately fifty members
in the beginning of the fall. Our
president and other officers have
worked very hard toward success.
Some dfour members went to
Raleigh to the Baptist Studeift
Union Convention during the time
we were being organized.
The Baptist Student Union gave
a chapel program in February
concerning the real events or
works that the Baptist Student
Union members had been doing to
make better leaders in the future.
We, as members of the Baptist
Student Union, are interested in all
new students joining in Septem
ber. Our Theme is “To Know
Christ and Make Him Known to
Others.”

We are planning a spring picnic
at Chavis Park in Raleigh, as a
climax of the year’s activities.
YMCA and YWCA
Recently, the YMCA and the
YWCA had a drive to raise money
for the clubs by selling candy on
campus. It was very successful.
The next and perhaps final event
that the YMCA and YWCA will
have will be a picnic.
As the end of the semester
draws near, the YMCA and the
YWCA make plans for the com
ing semester. The YMCA and the
YWCA have had a fruitful year.
However, being energetic and op
timistic groups, the Y’s are look
ing forward to bigger and better
program for the upcoming semes
ter.
